SCU held a new book release and academic forum ofRucang on October 13. Being compiled by Sichuan University,Rucang is by far the largest and most complete collection of Confucian literature in China. The compilation started in 1997 and lasted 25 years. A total of 656 volumes were collected, with a total of more than 500 million Chinese characters. Li Yanrong, President of the university, Jia Deyong, secretary-general of theInternational Confucian Association (ICA), Liu Hao, deputy director of the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies (China Confucius Foundation), Yao Leye, vice president of the university, Guo Yong, deputy secretary of the university Party Committee, academic experts and scholars, alumni of the University, among others, attended the forum either online or on site. The forum was chaired by Yao Leye.
Li Yanrong, on behalf of the university, expressed congratulations on the publication of the complete collection of Rucang. He said that cultural inheritance and innovation is an important responsibility of the university. SCU has gathered a large number of academic masters in the study of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism over the years. They not only inherited the Confucian theory, but also made efforts concerning the excavation and collation of Chinese classics. He said that the university is comprehensively promoting the implementation of five pilot plans, including the "mutual learning of civilizations and study on global governance", giving full play to the university’s interdisciplinary advantage and the depth of traditionally strong liberal arts, and making new contributions to the building of the discipline system, academic system, and discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese features.
Entrusted by Liu Yandong, president of the ICA, Jia Deyong congratulated our university on the release of the new version of Rucang. He said that the systematic and large-scale collation of Confucianism and its related documents by Sichuan University is of great academic value and practical significance for the better construction of the common spiritual home of the Chinese nation. Today, the successful conclusion ofRucanghas contributed a treasure house of ancient books with profound connotation and high quality to promote Chinese civilization and prosper academic research.
Entrusted by Guo Chengyan, secretary of the Party Committee of the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies (China Confucius Foundation), Liu Hao congratulated the release of the new book. He said that Sichuan University has made great achievements in the research, promotion and dissemination of Confucian culture. He hoped that both sides will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation and make more contributions to promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of China's excellent traditional culture.
Wang Zhongjiang, president of the Chinese Confucius Academy and professor of Peking University, congratulated the publication of Rucang. He said that the Confucian culture founded and developed by Confucius is the backbone of Chinese traditional culture, the spiritual source of Chinese identity and cultural identity, and the common cultural heritage of mankind.
Tan Jihe, an outstanding research fellow of the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences and president of the Sichuan History Society, said in his speech that the compilation of Rucang not only has the historic and cultural value of inheriting the ancestors' contributions and opening a new way of the times, but also reflects the most profound needs of the spirit and soul formation of the times. At the same time, it is also a new crystallization of the 4,000 year history of Shu Studies.
