The fifth Sichuan University Sports Culture Festival and the opening ceremony of the 2022 Track and Field Games kicked off in the stadium of Jiang'an campus on October 21. President Li Yanrong, Feng Xiaoming (academician of CAS) , Wang Yuzhong (academician of CAE), Distinguished Professor Cao Shunqing, Distinguished Professor Huo Wei, university leaders Xu Weilin, Cao Ping, Zhang Zhuo, Hou Taiping, Liang Bin, Yao Leye, Guo Yong, Zhang Wei, representatives of teachers and students, and athletes attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Guo Yong, deputy secretary of the SCU Party committee.
Vice President Liang Bin delivered an opening address. He said that the annual track and field meet is not only an important review of the achievements of university sports work, but also a concentrated reflection of teachers and students’ morale. I hope that each teacher and student can form a good habit to do physical exercise, maintain a healthful and happy attitude towards life and study, and make greater contributions to the development of a world-class university with a healthier physique and a better spiritual outlook.
Guo Yong read out the letter of commendation for Sichuan University sports work during the year 2021 to 2022. 18 units including the West China School of Medicine won the title of Advanced Unit in Sports Work of Sichuan University. The university women's basketball team won the title of Excellent Sports Team of Sichuan University. Ten athletes including Wang Yanqing won the title of Excellent Athletes of Sichuan University, and 2 coaches including Zeng Hongguang won the title of Excellent Coach of Sichuan University.
Quan Guowen, champion of the National Teenager Tennis Tour final and a Class 2021 student of the West China School of Stomatology made an oath on behalf of all the athletes. Zhang Xiaoya, the former member of China Women's Volleyball Team and world champion, made an oath on behalf of all the referees.
President Li Yanrong announced the opening of the sports meet.
Subsequently, university leaders, academicians, distinguished professors, and heads of all units led the teachers and students to run.
On the first day of competition, Xu Chenhao from the College of Materials Science and Engineering broke the university record with a height of 2.15 meters in the men's high jump final. At the same time, Tang Yin from the College of Literature and Journalism broke the university record with a time of 51 ″ 29 in the men's 400 meter final.
