The 2022 Cross-Strait Symposium on Chinese Traditional Culture and Modernization convened in the international academic exchange center of our university on June 11, 2022. The symposium was hosted by the central committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), the Ye Shengtao Research Association of China (YRAC), and Sichuan University.
Tian Xiangli, chairman of the CPPCC Sichuan provincial committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Sichuan provincial committee, Li Yanrong, president of the University, Xu Weilin, chairman of the Sichuan provincial committee of CAPD andvice president of SCU, Yang Jiande, vice chairman of the Sichuan provincial committee of CAPD, Cao Shunqing, distinguished professor of SCU, and nearly 100 experts and scholars from well-known universities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait attended the meeting. Gao Youdong, vice chairman and Secretary General of the central committee of CAPD, presided over the opening ceremony. In response to the pandemic, the event set up venues in Beijing and Chengdu, and used video connection for online communication.
Cai Dafeng said in his speech that the symposium on traditional Chinese culture and modernization across the Taiwan Strait has been in existence for 20 years and is an important platform for scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to carry out cultural exchanges and promote Chinese culture. The theme of this year's discussion is "mutual learning of civilizations, heritage protection and cultural inheritance along the Silk Road", which is an important topic in the process of modernization. We look forward to the experts and scholars expressing their insights, fully discussing and exchanging, and jointly promote the academic cooperation and innovative development of Chinese culture.
In her speech, Tian Xiangli pointed out that Sichuan and Taiwan have uninterrupted historical ties. The cultural exchanges between Sichuan and Taiwan continue to expand; the economic and trade cooperation continues to deepen, and the co construction achievements are impressive. I hope that the Sichuan branches of CAPD at all levels will strive to play a greater role in advocating the national spirit, conveying policies towards Taiwan, telling Chinese stories well, showcasing the image of Sichuan, and promoting the exchanges of hearts and minds.
In his speech, Li Yanrong indicated that culture is the soul and blood of a nation. Bashu civilization and Fujian and Taiwan cultures can learn from each other and complement each other. With a long history of running a school, profound cultural heritage and a large number of liberal arts masters and experts, SCU is comprehensively promoting the research program of mutual learning among civilizations and global governance. He said that the theme of this seminar has important cultural and practical significance, and will definitely foster the cross-strait cultural exchanges and promote the spread of Chinese traditional culture.
At the symposium, Professor Zhu Yuqi of Peking University gave a keynote speech. Experts and scholars from the National Chengchi University, National Taiwan Normal University, Zhejiang University and Xiamen University conducted in-depth discussions on different topics.
