The 9th Symposium on Learning-Centered Education: Future-Oriented Teaching and Learning

The 9th Symposium on "Learning-Centered Education - -Future-Oriented Teaching and Learning" was held on Wangjiang campus on December 16. The symposium was organized jointly by 15 universities, such as Sichuan University, Peking University, and Harbin Institute of Technology. Liang Bin, vice president of Sichuan University and heads of relevant units of the University attended this meeting. In addition, 16 experts and professors also attended and delivered keynote speeches at the meeting. They were from renowned domestic universities such as Peking University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Shandong University, Central South University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Chongqing University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics and Southern University of Science and Technology of China. The symposium was made up of three sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. More than 2,000 teachers from nearly 300 colleges and universities watched the meeting online.

Liang Bin pointed out in his speech that the theme of this symposium is "future- oriented teaching and learning". 16 experts from 15 universities were invited to conduct in-depth discussions on "learning-centered education" while focusing on "future-oriented teaching and learning" in order to explore education and teaching methods to meet the new requirements of students and the public and improve the quality of talent training. He underscored that to do a good job regarding "future-oriented teaching and learning", efforts should be made in the following three aspects. The first is knowledge of change. We should understand the new requirements that the new era and new changes have brought forth for teachers. The second is to study. We should not only do a good job in scientific research in the professional field, but also become adept at applying the consciousness, thinking and methods of scientific research to education and teaching. The third is innovation. We should constantly optimize the specialty setting, utilize advanced technology, innovate the teaching mode, emphasize the intersection of disciplines and cultivate well-rounded interdisciplinary talent.

In the report session, many scholars such as Professor Zhang Hongwei of Sichuan University and Professor Sun Hua of Peking University gave reports on "future-oriented teaching and learning". Drawing upon the thinking, research, exploration and practice of their respective universities, the speakers discussed and exchanged ideas in many respects, such as learning-centered teaching innovation, the development of education and teaching practice community, teachers' professional development, the development of high-quality talent training system, the construction of intelligent education ecology, classroom teaching reform as well as the development of virtual teaching and research room, etc.
