On April 19, SCU held a press conference on medicine-engineering integration and project guidelines on the West China campus. More than 400 people attended the meeting, and they included President Li Yanrong, Wei Yuquan(academician of CAS), Wang Qi(academician of CAE), Vice President Zhang Lin, heads and teachers of medical and engineering departments, as well as experts and scholars from other universities, heads of government departments and representatives of business circles.

Zhang Lin said in his speech that SCU has achieved fruitful results over the past two years of medicine-engineering integration. The purpose of this meeting is to publicize the university’s medicine-engineering integration policy, release the guidelines for key projects of medicine-engineering integration, pool innovative resources from government, industry, universities and research institutes, promote interdisciplinary scientific research cooperation, accelerating the development of medicine-engineering integration.

Zhang Lin presented the plaques of "three centers and one platform" for the medicine-engineering integration, and awarded the appointment letters to Wei Yuquan and Wang Qi, the two academic consultants of the medicine-engineering integration academic committee.

President Li Yanrong pointed out in his speech that the release of the guidelines shows that the combination of medicine and engineering has not only kicked off in Sichuan University, but also made new progress in the past six months, with medicine being the leader, the vigorous participation of engineering departments and the influx of resources from the society and enterprises. It is true that every small step in the development of medicine means a big step forward in human health. Therefore, it is not only the national demand and the urgent need of the people but also the requirement of SCU’s development itself to comprehensively promote the integration of medicine and engineering, especially the integration of medicine and information technology.

Now, the medicine and engineering departments have taken actions, vigorously promoting the integration of medicine and engineering. Next, on the basis of continuously promoting basic medicine and clinical research, we should also make more efforts to promote the integration of medicine and engineering, and find a way of combining medicine and engineering in a Sichuan University mode in China, which will promote not only the development of medicine but also the characteristic development of engineering at SCU.

At the meeting, Prof. Cheng Guo, director of the Discipline Development Department of West China Medical Center explained the policy of medicine-engineering integration, reported the progress of medicine-engineering integration, and announced 16 key projects of "three centers and one platform" of the integration.

Ye Ling, Dean of West China School/Hospital of Stomatology, introduced the latest development of "Med–X Center for Materials". Zeng Xiaoqian, on behalf of Zhang Wei, the Party secretary of West China School of Medicine (West China Hospital), introduced the development of the “Med-X Center for Informatics”. Huang Jin, associate dean of West China School of Medicine(WCH), introduced the preliminary achievements and the next key R & D plan of “Med-X Center for Manufacturing”. Huang Yong, executive vice dean of West China School of Medicine(WCH), introduced the basic situation of "Med-X Transformation Service Platform". The scientists from the "three centers and one platform" shared their own experience in promoting the medicine-engineering integration. They are Prof. Ying Binwu, Associate professor Wang Guotai, Prof. Zhao Weifeng, Prof. Chen Yucheng and Prof. Hu Wenchuang.
