On April 16, the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Sichuan University and Westlake University was held on Wangjiang campus. The president of Westlake University, Shi Yigong(academician of CAS) and Vice President Zhu Xiaoyun; President Li Yanrong(academician of CAE) of SCU and Vice President Chu Liangyin, as well as responsible persons of relevant units of both parties attended the signing ceremony. Chu Liangyin presided over the ceremony.
First, Li Yanrong extended, on behalf of the university and Chairman Wang Jianguo, welcome to Shi Yigong and his delegation. He briefly introduced the overall situation of SCU, especially the achievements in promoting interdisciplinary integration and building the top-notch disciplines. He said that Westlake University is a small but refined research-oriented university that President Shi Yigong has established. The university has an ever increasing influence in the circles of international higher education, and science and technology. He hoped that the cooperation agreement would usher in a period of cooperation between SCU and Westlake University in talent training and scientific research, especially through projects such as talent program, to train first-class talent and make first-class contributions to the national development and rejuvenation.
Shi Yigong thanked SCU for the warm reception. He said that Westlake University is a new type of university sponsored by social forces and supported by the state. The university is committed to gathering first-class teachers, developing tiptop disciplines, nurturing the best talent and producing world-class achievements. Since its founding, Westlake University has received generous support from other universities in China. Sichuan University is a well-known university with high quality students of great academic potentials. By virtue of this agreement, we hope to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with SCU, and jointly contribute to the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, and innovation-driven development.
Zhu Xiaoyun and Chu Liangyin signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties in front of the participants. According to the agreement, the two universities will establish a cooperation and consultation mechanism, strengthen the joint training of talent, carry out scientific research cooperation and exchanges, and promote personnel development.
Before the signing ceremony, Shi Yigong also made an academic report entitled "Mechanism of RNA Splicing by the Splicing /Molecular Mechanism of RNA Splicing" to the students of SCU, and discussed with the students the selection and determination of scientific research methods and research directions.
