In order to serve the development needs of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin City Economic Circle, SCU signed a contract with the city government of Meishan to establish a new campus of Sichuan University in the Mindong New District of Meishan on Jan.,14. Chairman Wang Jianguo, President Li Yanrong, Li Jiang, director of the Department of Education, Sichuan province; Mu Xinhai, Secretary of the Meishan municipal Party committee, and Liu Shiqing, chairman of the standing committee of the Meishan Municipal People's Congress, among others, attended the signing ceremony in Meishan.

SCU vice president Hou Taiping and Liu Xianwei, executive vice mayor of Meishan signed the "Agreement on the Construction of Meishan Campus of Sichuan University" on behalf of both sides. According to the “Agreement”, Sichuan University will join hands with Meishan in training high-quality talent and building a high-level "double first-class" school, contributing to the concerted development of Chengdu, Deyang, Meishan, and Ziyang.

According to the plan, the Meishan campus will cover about 3,000 mu. the city of Meishan is responsible for the construction of the first phase of the project, with a land area of 1,000 mu. The new campus is scheduled to open prior to September 2023.

The Meishan School of Sichuan University will focus on academic subjects such as the Medical Technology, Life Sciences, Nursing and so forth, and develop into a base for talent training, scientific research, achievement transformation, humanities research and international education. With the joint efforts between both sides, the Meishan School will be built into an international first-class campus with Meishan culture and SCU characteristics, assisting the development of a world-class university with Chinese features.
