The National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China has approved the establishment of the National Center for Stomatology in the West China School/ Hospital of Stomatology(WCSS), Sichuan University; Peking University Hospital of Stomatology; and the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Affiliated with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The Center will fulfill the corresponding responsibilities and tasks of the National Medical Center, and establish a multi-center collaborative working mechanism, promoting the national development of Stomatology.

The West China School of Stomatology, known as the birthplace of China's modern dental science education, was started from Ren-Ji Dental Clinic founded in 1907. Being an institution of higher education, medicine and scientific research, WCSS has built a first-class teaching team, cultivated first-class dental care professionals, created first-class diagnosis and treatment technology, and made first-class scientific research achievements over the past one hundred years.WCSS has been ranked the first in stomatology evaluation of the Ministry of Education(MOE) for four times (20 years); been selected into the development list of "double first-class" disciplines of MOE; been ranked as "A +" in the first national evaluation of Stomatology professional level, and topped the list of Stomatology by the Chinese Hospital Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) five times in a row. What’s more, it ranks first in Chinese stomatology in ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities(ARWU). It has ranked first in research achievements of Chinese hospitals (the Nature Index) for many times; it also ranks first in the Chinese Hospital Rankings by Fudan University.
