“After 25 minutes and 12 stations, you now can reach Jiang’an campus directly from Wangjiang campus.”
On December 11, Chengdu Metro Line 8 was put into trial operation, with a total length of 29.1km. There are 25 stations including "Sichuan University Wangjiang Campus Station" and "Sichuan University Jiang'an Campus Station". You can transfer to line 1 to arrive at "Huaxiba" campus. Hence, all three campuses are connected. Chairman Wang Jianguo of the university council, SCU President Li Yanrong, and other SCU leaders; Hu QingHan, chairman of the board of directors of the Chengdu Rail Transit Group, Ltd, Shen Weiping, general manager of the Chengdu Rail Transit Group, Ltd and more than 200 SCU teacher and student representatives participated in the test ride.
During the test ride, Wang Jianguo and Li Yanrong expressed thanks to the Chengdu municipal Party committee and government and the Chengdu Rail Transit for their support and help to Sichuan University. They noted that the opening of Metro Line 8 is a great thing for SCU’s teachers and students. It will facilitate the travel of teachers and students, and make it convenient to travel between the three campuses of the university, providing great support for the development of a double first-class university.
After the test ride, the teachers and students felt prouder of Chengdu. The opening of Metro Line 8 has substantially reduced the commute time. The design of the Wangjiang Station and Jiang'an Station is also very distinctive, which not only exhibits SCU’s cultural heritage over a century, but also shows the vigorous vitality of Sichuan University on its way to a brilliant future.
SCU’s teachers and students have actively participated in the design of the two key stations, the Wangjiang Campus Station and Jiang'an Campus Station, integrating the elements of Sichuan University. The Wangjiang Campus Station has "one hundred years of humanity" as its theme of design. The historical imprint of the university architectures finds expression in the design, and this station embraces and showcases those historical imprint in its space form, texture and color. There are large-scale white marble relief sculptures of "Centennial Sichuan University", which vividly display the contribution of Sichuan University to national development and social progress in students training, scientific research and social service in the past 100 years. The design theme of the Jiang'an Campus Station is "at life’s full flowering". Using an open "book" as the main decoration structure reinforcing space extension, the sheet form of "book pages" is lively and elegant. Through the rendering of ice blue light, it vividly demonstrates the modern spiritual style and vitality of the new campus of Sichuan University. Inside the station, there are large-scale ceramic mural works titled“At Life’s Full Flowering”by Xiong Yu, associate professor of SCU’s Arts College, which reflect the vitality of teachers and students at Sichuan University.
