On the afternoon of January 14, SCU held an annual meeting to summarize its scientific research in Wangjiang campus. The meeting reviewed the scientific research work of the university in the past year and commended remarkable scientific research workers who have made outstanding contributions to the university. Chairman Wang Jianguo of the university council, President Li Yanrong, and all other leaders attended the meeting. Vice President Chu Liangyin chaired the meeting.
At the meeting, Fu Qilin, director of the Social Sciences Department, made a summary of the scientific research work of liberal arts in 2020. He said that in 2020, the scientific research work of liberal arts in our university has made achievements in four aspects. First, new achievements have been made in recruiting high-end talent of liberal arts. SCU has issued the "Interim Measures for the Introduction of Liberal Arts Chair Professors", and appointed seven chair professors of liberal arts. Second, SCU has made new breakthroughs in terms of the national social science fund projects. Our university has obtained 15 major national projects, 41 annual projects of the National Social Science Fund, and 259 general projects during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, ranking first in Chinese colleges and universities. Third, remarkable achievements have been made in the development of high-level scientific research platforms, with a new national humanities and social science base and a collaborative innovation center by the Ministry of Education(MOE) and the Sichuan Province Educational Department. The Chinese Culture Research Institute has been approved as the first batch of key Chinese culture research institutes in Sichuan Province. The fourth is the continuous emergence of landmark achievements, which have won 22 first and second prizes of MOE's outstanding achievements in scientific research of Chinese universities (HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES). SCU ranks ninth in China. He said that in 2021, the university's humanities and social sciences should promote the development of new liberal arts, making new contributions to the development of first-class liberal arts.
Liu Chao, director ofOffice of Scientific Research and Development, Sichuan University, made a report on the scientific research work of our university in 2020. He said that SCU has made six distinct achievements in science and technology work. First, SCU has achieved remarkable results in tackling key scientific and technological problems in the control and prevention of COVID-19. The university has undertaken 60 COVID-19 urgent tasks of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the MOE and Sichuan province. In particular, the important breakthroughs in COVID-19 vaccination have been put in clinical trial, and the basic research results have been published inNature. Second, new breakthroughs have been made in terms of scientific research projects and funding. The total funding for scientific research in the university exceeded 3 billion yuan. 526 projects got approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The number of approved projects was the ninth in China, and the university won 11 national key research and development projects. The third is the outstanding achievements in science and technology. The three National Science and Technology Awards that our university took the lead in applying for have passed the evaluation and ranked 11th in the country. The six Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution that our university took the lead in applying for have passed the evaluation, and SCU ranks 9th in the total number and the number of first prizes in the country. Nine Sichuan Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution awards and the first prize of Sichuan Science and Technology have passed the evaluation. Meanwhile, Feng Xiaoming, academician of CAS, won the Tan Kah Kee Science Award in 2020, and Wang Qi, academician of CAE, won the Science and Technology Innovation Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2020. Fourth, the development of scientific research bases has reached a new level, with three new national scientific research bases and eight new provincial and ministerial scientific research bases. Fifth, new progress has been made in the development of scientific research talent team, and 4 outstanding youth projects of NSFC have been added. Sixth, the transformation of achievements and the cooperation between universities, local governments and enterprises have started a new situation. SCU has been selected as one of the first batch of seven universities under the MOE in China to give scientific researchers the right of ownership or long-term use of scientific and technological achievements.SCU has also been recognized as one of the first batch of national intellectual property model universities by the State Intellectual Property Office and MOE. It has signed a cooperation agreement with Chengdu High-tech Zone. He said that the university will comprehensively enhance its scientific and technological innovation ability and support the high-quality development of the country and region.
Vice President Yao Lye announced the scientific research awards in 2020, which included Sichuan University outstanding achievement award, outstanding scientific research talent award, major project and platform organization award, advanced scientific research management award and so forth. The delegates watched the video of representative scientific research achievements in 2020.

In 2021, the university’s scientific research work should continue to optimize the innovation chain, strengthen the organized scientific research, vigorously enhance the core competitiveness of the university, and make new contributions to the development of a world-class university.
