On April 12th , the opening ceremony of Materials Genome Engineering Forum of Sichuan University / Research Center for Materials Genome Engineering, Sichuan University was held at the incubation platform of high-tech enterprises in the university. President Yanrong Li, Vice President Weilin Xu, Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians of Jianxin Xie, Haizhou Wang, Xingdong Zhang, Chinese Academy of Sciences academicians of Chongyu Wang, Yuquan Wei, leaders and experts of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, Peking University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Provincial Academy of Science and Technology, Sichuan Department of Science and Technology and other work units, as well as the principal heads of relevant SCU departments attended the meeting. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Liangyin Chu, Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Sichuan University.
At the inaugural ceremony, Professor Mingli Yang, deputy director of the research center, made a brief introduction of the center. With the development of materials genome engineering technology as its core, the center is a multi-discipline innovation platform dedicated to materials science research and product development. Aiming to promote the construction of materials genome engineering platform, the center will support the implementation of national key R & D projects, meet the major needs of the country and society, and carry out pre-research work of materials genome engineering technology, subsequently improving the level of new materials research, development and innovation ability.
Vice President Weilin Xu read out the Notice on the Establishment of the Research Center for Materials Genome Engineering, Sichuan University and the Appointment of the leaders of the Center. Academician Xingdong Zhang was appointed as the director, Professor Mingli Yang as the executive deputy-director, Professor Kui Yu and Professor Zhong-ming Li as the deputy directors. Relevant leaders of the Industry Development and Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Material Department of the High-tech Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology delivered speeches respectively. They congratulated on the establishment of the center and the convening of the forum, fully affirming the role and significance of the center. The establishment of the center would further promote the development of China's advanced materials.
Director Liangyin Chu read out the list of members of the academic committee of the Research Center of Materials Genome Engineering, Sichuan University. Academician Jianxin Xie was appointed as the chairman of the academic committee, and 19 experts including Academician Chongyu Wang, Academician Haizhou Wang, Academician Xingdong Zhang, Academician Yuquan Wei, Academician Yuzhong Wang and Academician Qi Wang would serve as committee members. Vice President Weilin Xu and Academician Xingdong Zhang issued letters of appointment.

Afterwards, President Yanrong Li and Academician Jianxin Xie unveiled the nameplate “Research Center for Materials Genome Engineering, Sichuan University.”
President Yanrong Li made a speech on behalf of the university. He said that materials genome engineering is a subversive frontier technology emerging in the field of international materials in recent years. Its development will accelerate the design, research and development of new materials and promote the leapfrog development of new materials industry. In terms of materials disciplines, Sichuan University has a good foundation, rich content and wide application, involving many colleges. Materials science is very important because it is the common foundation of all engineering subjects. He said that Sichuan University is one of the earliest research institutes in materials genome engineering in China, and it has accumulated and laid a foundation in this field. Meantime, SCU gives full play to the integrated advantages of West China Medicine Science and Sichuan University's chemistry, life sciences, mathematics, physics, computer science and other interdisciplinary disciplines, and has further consolidated the research resources in related fields. As a result, SCU has established this research center for genome engineering, which is an interdisciplinary platform. He hoped that the center would further fine tune its research direction, meet the major needs of the country, break through key technologies and promote the innovation and development of materials science.
At the forum, Academician Jianxin Xie, Academician Chongyu Wang and Academician Haizhou Wang made an academic report respectively. Focusing on the hotspots and key issues in the field of materials genome engineering, their reports expounded the current research situation and development trend at home and abroad. The reports were well received by the teachers and students.
In his closing speech, Academician Xingdong Zhang again thanked all experts at the forum. He hoped that with the concern and support of experts and scholars at home and abroad, the center could focus on the research and development of key technologies and new materials, lead the development of disciplines, and promote industrial upgrading, accelerating the construction of a powerful country through materials science and technology.
