The University’s New Teaching Steering Committee is Founded

The inaugural meeting of 2018-2022 Sichuan University Teaching Steering Committee was held on Wangjiang Campus on April 2nd.  President Yanrong Li and other university administrators of Ping Cao, Bin Liang, Lin Zhang and all the new teaching steering committee attended the meeting.

Lin Zhang introduced the preparations for the establishment of the new teaching steering committee, announcing the names of the elected new teaching steering committee, liberal arts sub-committee, science sub-committee, engineering sub-committee, medical sub-committee and interdisciplinary sub-committee. Among them, academician Yuzhong Wang is the chairman of the new university teaching steering committee, while Shunqing Cao, Bi Shi, Weimin Li and Lin Zhang are the vice-chairmen of the teaching steering committee.

Academician Yuzhong Wang, on behalf of the new teaching steering committee, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the previous committee for the effectiveness of its work. He said that under the leadership of the university, he would work with all the members to do a good job in guiding undergraduate teaching, and make due contributions to the construction of first-class undergraduate courses and a world-class university as soon as possible.

On behalf of the university, President Yanrong Li congratulated the founding of the new steering committee and thanked the former committee members for their contributions. He pointed out that the university teaching steering committee is an important platform for professors to govern and participate in university management, and plays a special role in personnel training, especially undergraduate personnel training. Yanrong Li emphasized that for a long time, Sichuan University has attached great importance to the fine tradition and good experience of undergraduate education. In the past few years especially, it has made important progress in the reform of inquiry-small class teaching through classroom teaching revolution, which has a great impact nationwide. For example, through a series of educational and teaching reforms, students are encouraged to sit in the front row and ask questions. Now it seems to be of great significance. At present, the school is thinking about how to further deepen the reform of undergraduate education and teaching in the new era. Members are expected to not only personally participate in the teaching process, but also take the lead in teaching demonstrations for young teachers, guide the construction of undergraduate specialties in our university, especially in their colleges, constantly consolidate and expand the achievements of first-class undergraduate construction, and strive to build the "upgraded version” of undergraduate education in Sichuan University.

Afterwards, SCU new teaching steering committee held its first working meeting. The members had an overall discussion and sub-committee discussions of the undergraduate education and teaching program, Undergraduate Education 2.0 Action Plan and the Ministry of Education’s implementation plan in regard to undergraduate teaching assessment, evaluation and rectification in a new era.
