In order to implement the university council’s resolution to investigate and study, President Yanrong Li and his delegation went to investigate and study the reform of large comprehensive university administration and the reform and development of medical disciplines at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University on November 2nd. Vice President Weilin Xu, secretary of the president’s office, directors of Scientific Research Institute, World-Class University Construction Office, Department of Medical Management went along to the study.
On the morning of November 2nd, President Yanrong Li and his delegation visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University and had a discussion with President Zhongqin Lin and Vice President Lifeng Xi of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. President Lin made a brief introduction of the general situations of the university and the reform of university management and medicine science. In his speech, President Lin focused on their reform of budget and appraisal at both the university level and the college level. Relevant college deans and department heads talked in detail about their specific experiences in seven pilot colleges.
On the afternoon of November 2nd, President Li and his delegation visited Fudan University and met with President Ningsheng Xu and Vice President Yonghao Gui, among other deans and directors of Fudan University. President Xu introduced the general situation of Fudan University. He talked about in particular the problems in their reform of university management and shared their experiences and initiatives reforming personnel management system at the university level and in five pilot colleges. In the meantime, Yonghao Gui, vice president of Fudan University and dean of Shanghai Medical College, introduced in detail the progress they had made in the reform of management system at Shanghai Medical College.
During the friendly discussions in a lively atmosphere, President Yanrong Li expressed his heartfelt thanks toward both universities for their long-standing support and interest in Sichuan University. He pointed out that the experiences and initiative were valuable and enlightening. SCU would draw upon the good practices at the two universities especially the measures in the reform of management system and medical science in large comprehensive universities.
He also expected SCU administrative departments and colleges to go out and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with brother colleges and universities in promoting the construction of “double first-class” status.
