The 11th "Jinxiu Cup" Contest on the History of West China Medicine/Science Popularization Speech Competition was held in the studio of Huiwen building, Wangjiang campus on May 5th. Zhang Wei, the deputy secretary of the Party committee of the university, heads of relevant departments of the university, leaders of the West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital and representatives of teachers and students watched the competitions.

Being selected from 72 teams in the preliminary round, 14 student teams spoke on topics, such as "Periodontal disease - the silent killer of oral health", "How to drink water safely ", "How to use medication properly", "What are the dangers of alcohol use ", "What are the prescription preparations of medical institutions", "Respecting life, anesthesia first", "The story of anatomy in West China Medicine". Using vivid and descriptive expressions to tell medical knowledge and stories, the students made dull and esoteric medical knowledge easy to understand. In addition, students used videos and other means to make popular science knowledge such as medicine and health, disease prevention and care, healthful lifestyles, and life sciences "visible and tangible". Meanwhile, the contestants introduced to the audience the long history, cultural heritage and significant achievements of Sichuan University, which bettered students' understanding of the university's history, especially the history of West China Medicine, enhancing their sense of honor, pride and awareness of historical mission. The panel of judges evaluated the contestants' performances in terms of four categories, "being educational", "being scientific", "interesting", and "presentation". As a result, five teams won the first prize, nine team second prize and 25 team third prize.

Guided by the science and technology award and popularization department of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the "Jinxiu Cup" is hosted by the West China Medical Exhibition Hall of the Sichuan Provincial Science Popularization Base. This year is the 11th "Jinxiu Cup". The competition fully utilized the educational and promotional functions of the West China Medical Exhibition Hall, and aimed to carry forward the long history and profound medical culture of West China Medicine so as to cultivate the humanistic qualities, professional ethics and social responsibility of young medical students, helping build a healthful campus and a healthful China as well.
