Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) held its graduation for the Class of2021 in the International Conference Hall of the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction at 9am on June 18, 2021. Liang Bin, vice president of Sichuan University, Yao Leye, vice president of Sichuan University and the leaders and staff of SCUPI attended the ceremony to bid farewell to more than 170 graduates. The ceremony was presided over by Qiu Minjing, Dean of SCUPI.

First, Yao Leye, the vice president, expressed his sincere congratulations and best wishes to the graduates of SCUPI in 2021. In his speech, the vice president complimented the graduating class on their imminent study in a graduate school. At the same time, he also hoped that the graduates would bear in mind their original intention, make innovations and live up to their expectations. He welcomed the graduates to visit the university whenever they can.

Zhang Lulu, the English teacher of the graduating class, delivered a speech as a teacher representative. Miss Zhang Lulu has provided important support for the development of SCUPI’s English curriculum. In her speech, she encouraged the graduates to cultivate passions for the world and have an international vision wherever they are, to be ambassadors of cultural exchanges, and to make contributions to peace and development.

“Once SCUPIAN，SCUPIANS forever”. In her speech, Miss Yang Fan, the student advisor of the Class of 2021, led the graduates to recall their four-year study at the university. She encouraged the graduates to remain keen in their pursuit of truth and innovation, and to influence the world the best they can.

The degree conferring moment
Shao Tongfei from the program of Industrial Engineering spoke on behalf of all the graduates. "The undergraduate study is extremely important and I have benefited a lot from the four years of study at Sichuan University," she said. She also gave a word of advice to the students at the college: "In addition to having a good command of professional knowledge, we should also go out of the classroom and achieve the unity of knowledge and action.".

The Commencement
Up to now, 93% of the class have got either a job offer or admission to a graduate school. 90% (149 students) of the class will pursue graduate education. 110 students have been admitted to an international university, such as MIT, Stanford University, Imperial College London, Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University. 39 students have got admitted to Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Harbin Institute of technology, etc.
