The First Sichuan Biomedical Engineering Innovation Competition kicked Off in Wenjiang District, Chengdu recently.Yin Guangfu, secretary of the Party committee of the College of Biomedical Engineering, Sichuan University, announced the opening of the competition. Provincial and regional leaders at all levels, experts from the SichuanSociety for Biomedical Engineering and Sichuan Biomedical Engineering Education Committee, teacher and student representatives from Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and Southwest Petroleum University, and more than 200 representatives of business circles attended the ceremony.

Qin Baoping, deputy director of the Chengdu Medical City headquarters, and Guo Yong, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Sichuan University and other leaders addressed the opening ceremony respectively. They encouraged the contestants to give their best and achieve excellent results in the competition.

SCU’s Zhang Xingdong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and international member of the National Academy of Engineering, attended the conference and delivered a speech. He talked about the rapid development of biomedical engineering in the world. Students should seize the opportunity, overtake on the curve, and work hard to contribute to the rise of China’s science and technology.

At 10:00 in the morning, the final began. In the competitions of compulsory category and optional category, the members of each team gave full play to their professional expertise. Their works were brilliant, their designs were ingenious, their introductions were full of passion, and their questions and answers were wonderful.

At the award ceremony, Professor Wang Yunbing, the executive associate dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering of Sichuan University, made a concluding speech. He encouraged students to remain modest in learning, innovate boldly and make contributions to the development of biomedical engineering.

After fierce competitions, ten teams won the first prize, 22 teams won the second prize, all other teams in the final and 40 teams with excellent performance in the preliminary contests won the third prize. Moreover, ten teachers won the award for excellent advisor.
