On April 16, a meeting for the project proposal of New Oracle Bones Dictionary, a major bidding project of the National Social Science Fund, convened in Sichuan University. Prof. Peng Yushang of SCU’s School of History and Cultures(SHC) is the chief expert of this project. Prof. Zhu Fenghan from the Department of History(DOH) of Peking University and other experts, teachers and students attended the meeting. Huo Wei, a distinguished professor and Dean of SHC, and Zhou Zhaixian, deputy director of the planning office of the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences, also took part in the meeting and delivered a speech respectively. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Peng Bangben of SHC.

Prof. Huo Wei reviewed the profound friendship and academic interaction between the experts and SHC, and hoped that they would continue to care about and support SCU in terms of research projects and talent.

Prof. Peng Yushang, the chief expert, made the opening statement on behalf of the major project research group, and spoke of his preliminary ideas on some important issues and solutions that the group might encounter down the road. The sub project leaders Tian Guoli, Zhang Hui, Wu Yiqiang, Han Wenbo and Zhong Shuting introduced the research plans and research progress of their respective sub projects.

The expert group evaluated this major project and made suggestions for improvement. Prof. Peng Yushang, the chief expert, responded to the suggestions and questions of the experts and expressed his thanks to all the experts on behalf of the research group. He said that the research group would perfect the project according to experts' opinions, fully absorb the latest research achievements, and do a superb job revising “Oracle Bones Dictionary”.

Oracle Bones Dictionary was edited by Mr. Xu Zhongshu of Sichuan University, and published by Sichuan Dictionary Publishing House in 1988. The dictionary is regarded as the most practical and widely used reference book for oracle bone inscriptions. It was a milestone in the history of oracle bone inscriptions at the end of last century. It is also one of the landmark achievements of Sichuan University.
