The first Session of the 8th Working Conference of the Materials Department of Science and Technology Commission(STC) of MOE Convened at SCU on the morning of May 9.
Thirty five MOE department members, including Xie Heping, director of STC; Gao Runsheng, a grade A inspector and Secretary General of STC; Li Yanrong, director of the Materials Department of STC, and other specially invited experts and representatives from our university, including Zhang Xingdong, an academician of CAE, Wang Yuzhong, an academician of CAE, Wang Qi, an academician of CAE, Prof. Li Guangxian, Prof. Fu Qiang and Prof. Liu Ying, attended the meeting. Li Yanrong presided over the meeting.
President Li Yanrong delivered a welcome speech on behalf of SCU and introduced the general situation of the Materials Department of STC. He said that the new Materials Department is composed of 43 experts from 40 universities across the country. Today's meeting is attended by 14 academicians, as well as famous scholars and experts in the field of materials in China. “The first-class universities are the main force of basic research and the source of major scientific and technological breakthroughs". Under the leadership of MOE, the Materials Department should really work at the real issues and provide insightful and useful suggestions.
Xie Heping pointed out that to enhance the authority and influence of STC, it is necessary for STC to put forward high-quality expert suggestions, hold high-level academic forums and conferences, carry out high-profile subject research and science popularization activities. Xie Heping encouraged the Materials Department to uphold scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement as a basic strategy for national development, and actively offer suggestions and work hard at innovations.
Prof. Chen Xianchun, College of Materials Science and Engineering, SCU, reported the Strategic Research Report of Materials Department in 2021. Prof. Li Guangxian, director of the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering, introduced SCU’s Materials Science.
The experts and scholars had a lively discussion on the work plan and the development trend of the field of materials science. They further defined the key work of the Materials Department in 2021.
After the meeting, Jiang Fengyi, an academician of CAS and Prof. Hu Wenbin gave a wonderful report respectively, which the teachers and students highly acclaimed.
