The Tenth Chinese Mathematics Competitions was held at Harbin Institute of Technology from March 29th to 31st . 539 students from 203 Chinese universities and colleges competed at the finals. After fierce competitions and brave struggle, 11 undergraduate students of our university achieved excellent results in the finals and made impressive achievements again. They won five first prizes, five second prizes and one third prize altogether.
Being sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society, the Chinese Mathematics Competitions ( CMC ) is a high-level subject competition of undergraduate students nationwide. They serve as a platform for young learners to exhibit their knowledge of mathematical basics and mathematical reasoning ability. Furthermore, these competitions have accumulated research materials for universities to find and select outstanding mathematics talents and further promote the reform and development of mathematics curriculum construction. The Chinese Mathematics Competitions( CMC )was first launched in 2009. This year is the tenth CMC. It has become one of the most influential subject competitions of China. Over 130,000 students have taken part in the Tenth Chinese Mathematics Competitions( CMC ).
Note: In October 2018, SCU undergraduates won 391 prizes in the Sichuan regional competition of the 10th Chinese Mathematics Competitions in Sichuan Province. 50 students won prizes in the category of mathematics major, and 14 prizes were first prizes. ( Seven students ranked in the top 9, qualifying for the national finals. ) 341 students won prizes in the category of non-mathematics major, and 60 prizes were first prizes. ( Four ranked in the top 7, qualifying for the national finals. )
In recent years, the College of Mathematics has vigorously carried out reform measures such as undergraduate scientific research training, tutorial system, "large class teaching, small class discussion" and non-standardized examination to continuously improve the undergraduate education and teaching level of mathematics discipline. In the past five years, the rate of Mathematics undergraduates accepted into a graduate program exceeded 60% each year. At the same time, the College of Mathematics actively assists the Academic Affairs Office in carrying out activities such as the training of undergraduates' mathematical competitions, the training of mathematical modeling (national competitions, American competitions), and the training to improve university students' mathematical abilities so as to build a good platform for the cultivation of students' mathematical literacy and competency. It aims to constantly improve the undergraduate students' ability of mathematical competition and mathematical modeling in our university so that the students can develop a solid mathematical foundation for their academic subject study and further study as well.
