The 11th UK-China AMRI Research Workshop, co-sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering ( Sichuan University ) and the Polymer IRC of Bradford University, was held in our university recently.
Academician Qi Wang of Sichuan University; Professor Phil Coates of Bradford University, Academician of Royal College of Engineering; Professor Chul Park, Academician of Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering; Professor Weilin Xu, who is SCU vice president; Director Guangxian Li ( professor ) of National Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering; British Consulate General in Chongqing; Sichuan Science and Technology Department; leaders of Chengdu Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and other units attended the meeting.
Besides, more than 80 scholars from Bradford University ( UK ), Toronto University, Ghent University ( Belgium ), Sichuan University, Beijing Institute of Chemistry ( China Academy of Sciences ), Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry ( CAS ), Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Research ( CAS ) also attended this meeting. The theme of this conference was to celebrate a series of achievements Chinese scholars have made in cooperation with British scientists such as Academician Phil Coates over the past ten years, and to explore ways to further deepen cooperation. SCU Professor Guangxian Li and Academician Phil Coates of Bradford University chaired the conference together.
On behalf of the university, Weilin Xu delivered a speech. He indicated that the UK-China cooperation has achieved remarkable success in recent years, turning out many high-level results. The advanced materials conference has been held several times in Sichuan University, which promoted the close cooperation between SCU and British universities. Cecille El Beleidi, British Consul General in Chongqing and President Shirley Congdon of Bradford University, gave a video address, expecting more high-level research results from Sino-British scientific and technological cooperation.
This is the fifth AMRI workshop that SCU has held. During the workshop, over 80 Chinese and foreign scholars have demonstrated their latest research work in the form of report or exhibition. Their individual research work includes advanced materials processing technology, biomedical technology, tissue engineering repair materials, 3D printing materials, drug sustained release materials, advanced imaging technology and other frontier interdisciplinary research work. During group discussions, the scholars have discussed and combed through areas of innovation, coming up with cooperative plans for the future Sino-British scientific and technological research.
The UK-China AMRI was founded in 2012. With Sichuan University being the Chinese leader, this organization consists of Institute of Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry ( CAS ), Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Research ( CAS ), Beijing University of Chemical Technology, etc. Bradford University is the British leader. The British members include Sheffield University, Durham University, Leeds University, etc. In the past eight years, AMRI has undertaken 16 projects from organizations and institutions such as the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Natural Science Foundation Committee, EPSRC of Britain and the Royal Society of Britain. The research funds amount to 17 million RMB and 3 million pounds. International cooperation in micro-fabrication and polymer composites has achieved remarkable results. And the research work has won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China in 2017, the First International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of Sichuan Province in 2016, and the Tianfu Friendship Award of Sichuan Province in 2015.
