2019 the Fourth West China International Conference, sponsored by Sichuan University, was held from September 19th to 21st in Chengdu.
In his address to the conference, President Yanrong Li extended, on behalf of Sichuan University, his warm welcome to all experts and scholars at the conference. He said that the current strategy of “Healthy China” has provided new opportunities for the development of nursing science. West China School of Medicine is one of the birthplaces of higher nursing education in China, and Nursing Science is a remarkable nameplate of West China Medicine. Upholding the principle to develop by means of education, clinical practice and scientific research simultaneously, Sichuan University Nursing Science has provided strong support for the construction of the best medicine at Sichuan University. He expected that this conference would promote the development of nursing and nursing science by combining brilliant ideas from all sources.
In her speech, President Xinjuan Wu of Chinese Nursing Association recognized the significant role that West China Nursing has played in the development of nursing science in China. She stressed that West China Nursing Science has brought up a large number of excellent nursing professionals, making great contribution to China’s development of nursing profession. This conference bears witness to the constant endeavor of West China nursing professionals to intensify cooperation, consolidate resources and comprehensively deepen the reform of medicine. She expected the rank and file nursing professionals to explore vigorously and make progress continuously in fulfilling the new tasks and requirements of Healthy China.
In her speech, Suxuan Li, inspector of Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, hoped that the West China team of nursing professionals would continue to improve the innovation mechanism characterized by the integration of production, learning and research of nursing discipline in the future in order to provide new impetus for the development of nursing science in China and the world.
Weimin Li, Dean of West China School of Medicine/West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University, summarizes the fruitful innovations and development that West China nursing professionals have made over several generations in the construction of teachers’ team, talent training, clinical services, scientific research and international exchange. He hopes that the nursing team in West China will do a good job in the construction of six first-class programs in the nursing discipline and make unremitting efforts to build a "world-class medicine with Chinese characteristics, SCU style, and West China brand".
The opening ceremony was presided over by Xuehong Wan, the executive vice-president of West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, and Ka Li, Executive Dean of West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University. Focusing on the construction of nursing education, scientific research, personnel training, clinical services, quality and safety, professional development, nursing management, long-term care and other hot topics of nursing disciplines, the conference organized keynote speeches and summit forums, and invited well-known keynote speakers to give theme reports.

Launching Ceremony of Individual Sessions
The conference has brought together 158 well-known nursing experts from 23 nursing schools in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Canada, Thailand and South Korea. In addition, the conference organizer has received 857 articles from both home and abroad. More than 1,000 participants attended the conference.
