The 2019 National Congress of Plant Biology convened in Century City International Convention Center of Chengdu from October 11th to 14th. With the theme of “Plant Science and Ecological Civilization”, this convention has invited plant and biology experts and young scientists to investigate and discuss China’s latest research achievements and progress. More than 2,000 experts, scholars and outstanding young scientists from 231 work units including research institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University attended the meeting.
Executive Vice President Weilin Xu of Sichuan University attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Weilin Xu warmly welcomed all delegates to the convention and briefly introduced about the talent training and discipline development at Sichuan University. He hoped that experts would work together to accelerate the development of plant science through in-depth discussions at the convention. At the opening ceremony, a presentation was conducted for the second Wu Zhengyi Botanical Award. After evaluation by the award committee, academician Jun Zhou of Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences won the "Outstanding Contribution Award"; Yalong Guo, a research fellow of Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tao Su, a research fellow of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences won the "Youth Innovation Award"
In the theme report, the experts exchanged and discussed 10 topics, such as photosynthesis, carbon and nitrogen balance, plant cell signal transduction, etc. The convention also set up young scholars forum, young PI salon and wall newspaper display, which provided a platform for researchers to exhibit scientific research achievements and talk about academic ideas at different levels. After the expert evaluation by the Organizing Committee, 18 people won the "Excellent Wall Newspaper Award".
The successful conducting of this convention is of great significance not only to promote the integration of plant sciences, the construction of ecological civilization but also to raise the level of plant discipline construction in our university.
