The first International Workshop on Ferroptosis and Diseases was conducted at SCU from October 14th to 16th . The workshop has invitedfamous experts and scholars at home and abroad, such as Helmholtz Research for Grand Challenges, Germany, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, USA, University of Connecticut, Zhejiang University, Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Xiamen University to deliver reports at the conference. More than 200 researchers from nearly 30 institutions of higher learning, including Peking University, General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army and Ji’nan University, attended the workshop.
Being a hot topic, ferroptosis refers to iron dependent programmed cell death defined in recent years, which is closely related to the pathophysiological process of cancer, immunity, nerve and other major diseases. With the theme of "Ferroptosis and interdisciplinary integration", this international workshop has brought together experts and scholars from related fields at home and abroad, to explore the role and mechanism of this new programmed cell death in a variety of human diseases in order to promote the development of this research field in China. Junxia Xie, vice president of the Chinese Neuroscience Society and professor of Qingdao University; Huaxi Xu, tenured professor of Sanford BurnhamPrebys Medical Discovery Institute; Fudi Wang, president of Biological Trace Elements Branch of Biophysical Society of China and professor of Department of Public Health of Zhejiang University; and Peng Lei, director of Chinese Neuroscience Society, and professor of State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, are the co-chairs of this workshop.

The workshop has set up a special guest report and a forum for young scholars, with a total of 14 keynote reports. The invited experts and young scholars shared their latest research results and international development frontiers in this field from various perspectives. Being comprehensive and informative, their forward-looking reports have aroused immense interest and inspired new thinking among the audiences.
The workshop has provided wonderful reports which allowed experts and young scholars the opportunities to interact with teachers and students. The atmosphere was vibrant. These seminars also set up a platform for experts and scholars to exchange ideas, discussing the frontier issues of scientific research. They promoted international exchange and cooperation and contributed to academic prosperity in the field. SCU State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine are the hosts of this workshop.Sichuan University hopes to strengthen the cooperation and exchange with famous universities, scientific research institutions, experts and scholars at home and abroad, so as to gather strength for Sichuan University's grand goal of "building a world first-class university”.
