Recently, 2024 International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition (Chinese Edition) (hereinafter referred to as ICCMCC) was held in Beijing. Sichuan University won the first award and the "Best Defence Counsel", and the team member Zhu Xi won the "Best Oralist of Defence Counsel"in the competition. It was the first time for the Law School to participate in this event on behalf of Sichuan University. Dr. Yu Jianchuan was the coach of this team, and class 2021 undergraduates Yang Jingru, Zhu Xi, Wan Jinglu, Harriet Mije-Kurbanjiang, Huang Yun served as debater and researcher respectively. The team will take part in the final competition in Hague, Netherlands in July this year.
This event attracted contestants from 118 university law schools and universities of political science and law, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University and Wuhan University. Other 11 first award winners included Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Jilin University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. The current ICMM competition revolves the Rome Statute, involving three controversial points: jurisdiction, substantive crimes, and defendant qualifications. Among them, substantive crimes mainly revolve the prosecution of cultural objects protection and crimes against humanity in regional armed conflicts.
ICCMCC (Chinese Edition), hosted by the Chinese Initiative on International Law, is a moot court competition conducted with the support of the International Criminal Court and it is in accordance with the substantive and procedural rules of the Court. It is currently the only international law moot court competition that uses Chinese as the language of competition. This competition, together with the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, is known as "three major events of the international Public Law Moot Court".
