SCU Holds the 6th Yangtze-Volga" University Alliance Forum

The fourth meeting of the Cooperation Council of the Middle and Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River in China and the Federal District along the Volga River in Russia, as well as the sixth "Yangtze-Volga" University Alliance Forum, convened in Nanchang, Jiangxi on November 8th.

On the morning of the 8th, Zhang Guoqing, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and vice premier of the State Council, and Kamarov, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President to the Volga River Federal District, attended the meeting. SCU’s President Wang Jinsong was invited to attend the meeting as the Chinese chairman of the “Yangtze-Volga” University Alliance.

The 6th "Yangtze-Volga" University Alliance Forum was conducted in Nanchang on the 8thand 9th. Zhang Guoqing and Kamarov attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech respectively. Wang Jinsong presided over the opening ceremony.

This forum was hosted by Sichuan University and the University of Nizhny Novgorod, and was organized by Nanchang University. The theme of the forum is "Potentials for Education and Research Cooperation between Chinese and Russian Universities". More than 100 university administrators, experts and scholars from Chinese and Russian universities participated in the forum and conducted discussions.

Wang Jinsong stated in his keynote speech that since its establishment in 2017, the "Yangtze- Volga" University Alliance has attracted 36 Chinese universities and 50 Russian universities, achieving fruitful results in multiple fields such as talent cultivation, scientific research and cultural exchanges.We hope to work together with all member universities of “the Alliance” to strengthen international exchange and cooperation in talent cultivation, further innovate research cooperation methods, enhance forward-looking and strategic consulting services for decision making, share opportunities, seek common development so as to build a good university alliance, making greater contributions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era.

The participating school leaders, experts and scholars freely expressed their insightful views regarding the prospects of joint scientific and technological research, the direction of educational cooperation, and the modes of cooperation in the field of humanities between Chinese and Russian universities.

SCU’s Vice President Yao Leye, Secretary General of the Chinese side of "the Alliance", gave a concluding speech at the closing ceremony. He hoped that the universities of "the Alliance"” would further strengthen practical cooperation and work together to develop world-class universities and disciplines, providing due services and contributions to win-win cooperation between China and Russia.

A work meeting of the 2023 Chinese member universities of "the Alliance" was also held during the forum, and released the "Yangtze-Volga" literary translation works.

The Sino Russian "Yangtze-Volga" University Alliance was officially established on June 16, 2017. Sichuan University serves as the leading Chinese university, and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University the leading Russian university of the "Yangtze-Volga" University Alliance.
