Chilean President Boric Visited SCU and Delivered a Keynote Speech

Chilean President Boric visited our school and delivered a keynote speech on October 14. Chairman Gan Lin of the university council presided over the keynote speech, and President Wang Jinsong met with Borich and his delegation. Chilean Minister of Foreign AffairsAlberto van Klaveren Stork, Ambassador to China Hurtado, Minister of the General Secretariat of the Government Camila Vallejo, Minister of Public Works Lopez, Transport and Telecommunications Minister Mu ñ oz, and other officials attended the event. Chinese government's Special Representative for Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi, Chinese Ambassador to Chile Niu Qingbao, Ambassador to Foreign Affairs Ou Jianhong, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office Liu Min, Vice President Yao Leye, and others also attended the event.

Wang Jinsong welcomed President Boric on behalf of the university and briefly introduced the basic situation of SCU. He pointed out that Sichuan University has always maintained an open approach to education and attaches great importance to cooperation with universities in Latin American countries such as Chile. SCU has established the Spanish Department and the Latin American Research Institute to further promote cooperation with the Latin American region. The "China - Chile University Student Science and Cultural Exchange Project", which was organized by SCU, opened yesterday, and 22 Chilean teachers and students participated in the project. The university will take the President's visit as an opportunity to accelerate exchanges and cooperation with Chilean universities and research institutions, and strive to promote the high-quality development of education in China and Chile as well.

President Boric expressed gratitude for the warm reception by the university. He pointed out that Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and both China and Chile support each other and have always maintained a good partnership. Chile gives high priority to cooperation with Chinese universities such as Sichuan University and hopes to further promote exchanges between Sichuan University and Chilean universities through this visit, intensifying cooperation between the two countries in fields such as technology, culture, and education.

Gan Lin presided over Boric's keynote speech. He pointed out that cooperation in various fields between China and Chile has achieved positive results and played a good exemplary role since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries over half a century ago. President Boric upholds friendship with China and values the development of relations with China. Next, Sichuan University will sign an agreement with the University of Chile to promote talent cultivation, academic exchange, and scientific research cooperation, jointly advocate the common values of all humanity, and contribute to the development of an Asia Pacific community with a shared future as well as a global community with a shared future for mankind.

Boric pointed out in his keynote speech that China has made great achievements in poverty reduction, technological innovation, environmental protection, and other areas in recent years, setting a model for developing countries. Chile is vigorously transforming its development model and exploring the path of sustainable development. It hopes to learn from China's advanced experience in governance, technological innovation, cultural inheritance, and green development, deepen cooperation in related fields, and jointly promote the construction of a beautiful world with win-win cooperation.

SCU's teachers and students asked the President questions about issues such as "strengthening cooperation in multiple fields between China and Chile" and "how young people can better participate in international political, economic, and cultural construction".President Boric stated that the potential for cooperation between China and Chile is enormous. He hopes that young people from both countries can have extensive exchanges, deepen understanding, and learn from each other. He also hopes that civil society exchanges between China and Chile will become more frequent, so that the tree of friendship between the two countries can bear more fruitful fruits.
