Three Rescue Teams of West China Hospital Rushed to Help the Luding Earthquake Stricken Area

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Luding county of Ganzi prefecture, Sichuan province at 12:52 p.m. on September 5. By order of the National Health Commission and the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, the national mobile medical treatment center for health emergency (Sichuan) of the West China Hospital sent nine members in two ambulances to Luding county, Ganzi prefecture at the first time to supervise the treatment of the wounded.

The leader of the medical team is Yang Chaohua, deputy chief physician of the Trauma Medical Center. The eight members are from the Emergency office, Trauma Medical Center and the Emergency Department. At 11:00 p.m. September 5, a quick response team of five members was dispatched to the Ya'an People's Hospital to help with the treatment of the earthquake victims.

The team is composed of Associate Professor Hu Qinsheng of the Orthopedics Department, Associate Professor Zheng Jun of Neurosurgery, Dr. Fu Min of Critical Care Medicine, Wu Xiaowen (nurse) and Huang Bin (driver). At about 1:00 a.m. on the 6th, the team arrived at the Ya'an People's Hospital and joined in the rescue work immediately.

At about 10:00 am on September 6, one more five-member quick response team rushed to the Ganzi People's Hospital to treat the earthquake victims. The team is composed of Bo Hong, deputy chief physician of the Critical Care Medicine, Deng Yuxiao of Orthopedics Department, Dr. Liu Hao of Neurosurgery, Luo Sheng (nurse), and Wei Dong (logistics personnel).
