The fifth Sichuan University Teachers Teaching Innovation Competition kicked off in Block A of the Basic Teaching Building on Wangjiang campus on March 5. The theme of the competition is "promoting teaching innovation and cultivating first-class talent". Vice President Liang Bin, principal leaders of relevant departments and 35 experts participated in the opening ceremony of the competition.
In his opening address, Liang Bin indicated that first-class universities should cultivate first-class talent. Sichuan University is striving to develop into a world-class university. A first-class university needs first-class teachers, and a first-class teacher team is the key to school teaching.
In this regard, he put forward three expectations for teachers. First, love teaching, invest in teaching and keep in mind the mission of teaching and educating people. Second, pay attention to the academic nature of teaching, integrate the most advanced theories of the discipline and the results of their own scientific research into the teaching contents, and help students understand the development trend of the discipline. Third, pay attention to the artistry of teaching, be good at using classroom teaching to stimulate students' desire for knowledge and professional interest, and guide students to vigorously contemplate and reseach problems.
Dang Yuewu, director of the Office of Academic Affairs, introduced the competition rules and stressed that the competition aims to guide teachers to innovate teaching modes, reinforce new teaching ideas and methods, and set up good examples.
The competition is divided into two tracks: the comprehensive group "teachers teaching innovation competition" and the youth group "young teachers teaching competition". After preliminary competitions in individual colleges/schools, 124 teachers advanced to the finals, including 77 teachers in the comprehensive group and 47 teachers the youth group.
In the "young teachers teaching competition", the panel of judges reviewed a contestant’s syllabus, teaching section designs, classroom presentation and classroom teaching reflection.
Based on the comprehensive evaluation of the judges, the university selected 10 teachers to participate in the second Sichuan Provincial teaching innovation competition, and seven teachers to compete in the sixth Sichuan Provincial young teachers teaching competition.
