On March 26, Chairman Wang Jianguo of the university council, Vice President Yao Leye, and their entourage visited and extended regards to the teachers and students of the School of Archaeology and Museology(SAM) who vigorously participated in the excavation at the Sanxingdui Archaeological Site in Guanghan. They also investigated the construction of SCU’s Sanxingdui archaeological practice base.

In the morning, Wang Jianguo and his entourage met with SCU’s 15 teachers and 21 students who participated in the archaeological excavation. They investigated the scientific archaeological laboratory of the Sanxingdui Archaeological Site and listened to the excavation report of Sanxingdui sacrificial pits.

At the excavation site of Sanxingdui, Wang Jianguo carefully got to know the excavation progress of No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 sacrificial pits, and inquired about the working and living conditions of the Archaeology teachers and students. He said that the university will take various measures to fully support the excavation, protection, research and interpretation of Sanxingdui cultural relics, and hope that the teachers and students will do their best working at the excavations.

In the afternoon, both sides held a forum. Wang Jianguo said at the forum that it is significant for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation to do a good job in Sanxingdui. SCU has participated in a number of Sanxingdui archaeological excavations in history, and SCU should do a good job in the whole process in the future. He pointed out that the university has a good research foundation in the fields of ancient Chinese characters, pre Qin history and so forth. Teachers engaged in related fields should participate more in the archaeological research of Sanxingdui in order to serve the archaeological research of Sanxingdui. We expect more SCU experts and scholars to provide intellectual support for the development of relevant cultural industries in Sanxingdui. We also expect the cities of Deyang and Guanghan to cooperate closely with Sichuan University regarding Sanxingdui archaeology. Both sides work together to develop Sichuan archaeology and museology.

At the forum, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on the joint construction of Sanxingdui Teaching and Scientific Research Practice Base of Sichuan University and the joint construction of cultural relics and archaeology laboratory by SCU and the cities and the province.
