On Sept. 26, SCU and the Chengdu municipal government conducted the 6th Chengdu International Forum on Precision Medicine (IFPM 2020). This month also marked the 124th anniversary of the founding of SCU and the 110th anniversary of the founding of the West China School of Medicine. The CAS academicians Yuquan Wei, Fusheng Wang, Xiuwu Bian; Jinming Yu, academician of CAE; Barry J. Marshall, the Nobel Prize winner and foreign academician of CAE; Everett Peter Greenberg, member ofthe American Academy of Arts and Sciences; Jing Jing,deputy secretary of the university Party committee and vice mayor of Chengdu; Vice President Lin Zhang, and many well-known scholars and entrepreneurs at home and abroad attended the forum. President Weimin Li of the West China Hospital/School of Medicine presided over the forum.
In his speech, Weimin Li said that raising the overall development level of precision medicine plays an irreplaceable strategic role in improving the quality of life of the people and implementing the major national programs such as "healthy China" . SCU always considers the development of precision medicine one of its key tasks while building a world-class university. By consolidating the medical resources of West China Medicine, it has not only boosted the global influence of the West China precision medicine, but also strongly promoted the development of precision medicine in our province and China as well.
Lin Zhang welcomed, on behalf of the university, all distinguished guests at the forum. He said that SCU has a good foundation and the leading edge in the development of precision medicine. SCU’s West China Hospital is an advocator, pioneer and leader of precision medicine in China. It has been committed to promoting the clinical research and application transformation of precision medicine, and has been approved as a national and provincial platform and laboratory of precision medicine. Next, the university will give full support to the construction of a precision medicine industry innovation center, and promote the formation of a precision medicine innovation and industrialization system that is competitive in the world. It is his belief that this forum would bring new strength and inspiration to the development of precision medicine, pharmaceutical and health industry in Sichuan and the whole country as well.
On behalf of the Chengdu municipal government, Jing Jing offered her congratulations on the successful convening of the forum, welcomed all the guests and expressed thanks to the medical workers. She pointed out that Chengdu is an important biomedical industry base of the nation. In recent three years, the business income of Chengdu biomedical industry is higher than the average industrial growth rate of the whole city. Chengdu boasts a large number of high-level medical schools and institutions such as the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, as well as many high-end talent and R & D institutions, which provide intellectual and industrial support for the research and development of precision medicine. Chengdu will vigorously support and participate in the development of precision medicine and welcome high-end talent and teams to settle in Chengdu.
