A ceremony to honor the establishment of the new academic committee and to issue letters of appointment to its members was conducted in Mingde Building, Wangjiang Campus on January 8th. President Yanrong Li ( academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering ), academicians Jie Gao, Shouhuan Zhou, Bi Shi, Yuzhong Wang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academician Anmin Li of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, outstanding professors Zhisheng You and Shunqing Cao, university administrators Shijing Yan, Weilin Xu, Ping Cao, Lin Zhang, members of the academic committee of the school, deans of individual colleges ( hospitals ) and heads of relevant departments attended the ceremony. Weilin Xu presided over the ceremony.
Shijing Yan read out the Sichuan University Statute of Academic Committee ( revised ) and announced the elected members of the humanities and social sciences sub-committee, the science sub-committee, the engineering sub- committee and the medical sciences sub-committee. Shi Bi is the chairman of the Academic Committee of the university, and Shunqing Cao, Anmin Li, Yuquan Wei and Wei Xu are vice chairmen of the Academic Committee.

Yanrong Li first congratulated the establishment of the new academic committee and branch committees on behalf of the school and Chairman Jianguo Wang of the university council, and thanked the members who have made important contributions to the academic development of the school over the years. He pointed out that among the three elements of "students, scholars and academics" of first-class universities, academics have always been the main line and the lifeline of school development. He also indicated that the university academic committee is the highest academic institution of Sichuan University. The committee members are of profound learning and have a good academic moral. They are the valuable assets of the university. He further said that the bottleneck containing the university development is of two facets: the overt facet is a lack of talents, and the covert one is the low academic standards. The number of people pursuing first-class academics is small.
He expected the members of the new academic committee and sub-committees to work together and take the lead in promoting the academic level of the school and vigorously safeguard academic integrity and morality. The university will fully support the academic committee to carry out independently academic evaluation and academic work. The university will also take seriously the opinions and suggestions of the Academic Committee on the development of the university.
