The Nuclear Shield of a Powerful Country, China's first popular science short film with the theme of "nuclear safety and medical security", was officially released on the official WeChat account of Sichuan University. Prof. Zhang Shuyu’s team of the West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine was the producer of this film.The Renowned young director Yang Yang served as the screenwriter and director, and the film was funded by the Science and Technology Commission of the Military Commission of the CCPCentral Committee. The launch of this film is a boost on the safe development and guarantee of the nuclear radiation related industry, filling the gap in science popularization film and television works in this field.
It is reported that the film was played in a military camp in Tibet, the Tibet University, Sichuan University and a military camp in Chengdu early to mid-December and received high acclaim.
Prof. Lan Tianhe (1903.09-1991.11), a pioneer in biochemistry in China, was invited to participate in the medical biochemistry research of the Manhattan Project (the first atomic bomb research project) in the United States in 1943. He served as the deputy team leader. In 1946, Lan Tianhe returned to China to continue his research and later established the first Institute of Biochemistry in New China at the West China Union University. the Chengdu newspapers published an article titled Research on Atomic Energyin 1948, reporting on Lan Tianhe's leadership in establishing a biochemical laboratory to study nuclear radiation. Mr. Lan has successively cultivated a large number of outstanding talent in biochemistry, making important contributions to the development of China's biochemistry industry. Subsequently, China successfully developed nuclear weapons in the 1960s. At that time, the older generation of radiation medicine researchers, such as Wei Luxin, Zheng Xiulong, Liu Shuzheng, Wu Dechang, Cheng Tianmin, and Pan Ziqiang already started research on nuclear safety on the land of our country. In order to obtain first-hand data quickly, they disregarded personal safety and went deep into the nuclear explosion site more than ten times. Some even lost their precious lives.Up to this day, tens of thousands of radiation medicine researchers in China are still tirelessly researching and developing new technologies for nuclear radiation injury drugs and protection, providing support for China's nuclear safety medical emergency and rescue.
