The 2023 “Blossoms on the Road”, a Chinese National Learning Month campaign of Sichuan University opened on Jiang'an campus on March 31. This event was jointly sponsored by the Youth League Committee and the College of Literature and Journalism. Mr. Xiang Chu, a distinguished professor of liberal arts, a famous Dunhuang scholar, philologist, linguist, literary historian and Buddhist scholar of SCU, leaders of relevant units of SCU, and representatives of teachers and students attended the opening activities.
As a distinguished guest at the "Chinese National Learning Forum" Mr. Xiang Chu delivered a key-note speech, "My 60 Years of Chinese National Learning". He introduced his love of the Dunhuang Studies for more than 40 years, the profoundness of Dunhuang popular literature, and the highlights of Dunhuang studies in China.
On the Youth Square, the "Blossoms on the Road" poetry exhibition attracted many teachers and students. The poetry exhibition starts with the origin of the Chinese National Learning Month and includes four chapters. Drawing on the new poetry documents collected by the "Liu Fuchun Library of Literature on Chinese New Poetry" of Sichuan University, the exhibition presents valuable historical materials such as poetry journals, poetry newspapers, poetry theory collections, poetry leaflets, and poet manuscripts to the teachers and students, providing viewers with information to understand the Chinese poetry evolution from the ancient times to modern days. The College of Literature and Journalism organized a team of student volunteer interpreters, explaining exhibition works to the teachers and students.
On the other side, the "Guofeng (Chinese style) Market" was bustling with voices. 16 intangible cultural heritage conservation units and traditional culture associations, including the Chengdu Shadow Puppet Art Museum, Calligraphy and Painting Association, Guzheng Association, Hanfu(the Han clothing) Cultural Association, and others, have brought 20 traditional cultural experience projects such as Sichuan Opera performances, shadow puppet play, wood carving, Qiang embroidery, calligraphy and painting, diabolo, and tie dyeing.
Zhan Feiyu, a student from the Arts College, talked about the series of activities on the opening day of the national learning month. He indicated that the activities ranging from Mr. Xiang Chu's erudite "Chinese Studies Forum" to the poetry exhibition, to the dynamic and lively "Guofeng Market" gave him a three-dimensional perspective of the charm of China's excellent traditional culture.
Yan Ruyu, a student from the College of Literature and Journalism, said that she was overwhelmed by the series of activities on the opening day. She felt the charm of traditional Chinese culture and experienced the happiness of "ancients".
