On June 4, the 20th China University Students Swimming Championships/ Qualifying Event for the 31st Summer World University Games successfully concluded. The SCU Swimming Team did well, achieving good results.
24 SCU student athletes competed in this four-day championship and won one silver and three bronze medals. 22 students advanced to the top eight. The swimming team ranked among the top eight in total group score, the only team from west China. Zhuang Yanjia, a student of Class 2019 of the West China School of Stomatology, was particularly outstanding. She won the second place in the 100-meter freestyle and the third place in the 200-meter freestyle. In addition, she helped the team to win the third place in the women's 4 × 100 freestyle relay and 4 × 200 freestyle relay.
This is the first annual university students swimming competition of the highest level in China during the pandemic prevention and control. It has attracted more than 800 athletes, team leaders, coaches and referees from 56 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Sichuan University and Fudan University. The scale of the competition has reached a new high.
According to the schedule and training plan, the university swimming team will train hard for a month after returning to school. Afterwards, they will represent the university students of Sichuan province and compete in the triennial National Students Games in Qingdao in July.
