The Sixth China International College Students’ ‘Internet +’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereafter referred to as “the Competition”) finals were held at South China University of Technology from Nov. 18 to 20.SCU won one gold, four silvers and two bronzes. Additionally, SCU has won the “Advanced Collective Award” for six consecutive years.
After a series of competitions since June: namely, preliminary contest at the university, provincial rematch, national semi-finals online, five projects made it to the national finals. As the only project recommended by the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Annual Conference, "Smart bone --- pioneer of personalized degradable bone induction materials" directly entered the finals and won the gold award.
In accordance with Premier Li Keqiang’s suggestion, the Competition is jointly sponsored and organized by 12 ministries and provincial people's governments including the Ministry of Education. Since 2015, the Competition has attracted more than ten million college students from five continents’ “one thousand colleges of one hundred states”. A large number of high-quality projects with high scientific and technological content has taken part in the Competition. It has become the most influential entrepreneurship and innovation event which opens up to all university students from China and abroad.
In 2020, a total of 1.47 million projects from 4,186 schools from 117 countries and regions, and 6.31 million contestants signed up for the Competition. Specifically, 1,158 foreign schools participated in the Competition, with 3,291 entries and 8,981 applicants. The University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, MIT, among other top 100 universities, all sent high-level teams to participate. Adopting both online and offline venues, the Competition provides an international platform for “innovation and entrepreneurship" youth to compete in the same field and help each other improve, promoting cultural exchanges.
