“My Motherland and I, we cannot be separated---”. At noon December 21st, mellifluous voices singing songs echoed over the Youth Square of Jiang'an Campus. It was a flash performance with the theme “My motherland and I” whereby teachers and students gave singing and dancing shows in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Reform and Opening up and the 70th anniversary of the founding of a new China. They did the performance to express their affection for the Party and the motherland, wishing the best for the Party and the motherland.
The exhibition “Vibrant Tides of Reform, Hard Work to Create a New Era---SCU Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up” was just going on, and teachers and students alike gathered to watch the exhibition. At 12 O’clock, melodious string music sounded from the east side of the square, playing the melody of My Motherland and I, which is well known to all. Two vocalists stepped out from the crowd and started to sing My Motherland and I.
The teachers and students who happened to pass by got drawn toward the performance, and the crowd was getting bigger and bigger. Suddenly, singers emerged from round the Youth Square and walked towards the square center to join the chorus. In the enthusiastic singing, a red silk sheet glistening like fire unfolded in the square, and the dancers immediately appeared behind the choir and began to perform gracefully. Their lively dancing was like a flame, which ignited the cold winter and the whole Youth Square.
As the flash performance developed toward climax, more and more students came over to watch. Dancers and singers changed positions from time to time, forming new formations and posing new postures. The whole activity became more and more exciting. The students who were watching also raised the little red flag, waving along with the singing and dancing.
At the climax of the flash performance, SCU national flag guards stepped out with the flag in steady and powerful strides. They solemnly mounted the flag platform in the center of the square, and launched a five-star red flag. All the actors stood up one after another to pay attention to the flag. Flash activity officially ended in the resounding melodious string music, and applause and cheers erupted unabated.
It is reported that the SCU Publicity Department, Students Work Department and the Communist Youth League Committee have devised this activity together. The Students Art Troupe, the National Flag Company, the chorus of West China Hospital of Stomatology and the chorus of the College of Art have taken part in this activity.
