From June 9 to 11, the final competition of the 15th "Challenge Cup" Sichuan Provincial University Students' Extracurricular Science and Technology Competition was held in Jinjiang College of Sichuan University. In this provincial competition, the SCU student team won 12 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes, ranking first in the number of first prizes and the overall score. Thus, the SCU team won the highest collective prize "Challenge Cup" and the provincial excellent organization prize. At the closing ceremony, the SCU student team had an open road show of their project Development of Induced Regeneration/Anti-Tumor Nano-hydroxyapatite Coated 3D Printed Porous Titanium Scaffold, which exemplifies the prize winning projects.

This “Challenge Cup” competition has received 1,013 entries from 71 universities and colleges across Sichuan Province. And 420 works have advanced to the final competition after several rounds of preliminary competitions. The competition is divided into three series: natural science academic papers, scientific and technological inventions and social investigation reports of philosophy and social sciences. Natural science papers and scientific and technological inventions include machinery and control, information technology, mathematics and physics, life sciences, energy and chemical engineering. Social investigation reports of philosophy and social sciences include philosophy, economy, law, sociology, education and management. The finals were arranged for on-site debates and public road performances. The SCU teams worked hard for the contest, fully demonstrating the courage, wisdom and social responsibility of SCU students who actively participated in social investigation and research and dared to explore the frontier of science and technology.

Being dubbed the Olympic Games of the Chinese university students scientific innovations, “Challenge Cup” competition convenes once every two years. Standing by the theme of “Holding science in veneration, pursuing truth and facts, hard work, innovation and meeting challenges”, the competition has always aimed to inspire and encourage university students to innovate, make achievements, raise their competencies and develop hands-on abilities since it was first launched in 1989. SCU has always attached great importance to the “Challenge Cup” competition and SCU students have won many honors including special prizes at the national level. Since July 2018 when this Challenge Cup was officially launched, 263 students teams from all disciplines and across undergraduate and postgraduate levels have participated in the competition. The SCU Youth League Committee has run the elective course "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ability Training of College Students Based on Challenge Cup". It has organized training camps for project cultivation, excellent works reading rooms and keynote workshops and seminars, incubated and funded the participating projects. The SCU Youth League Committee, together with the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Sichuan University had invited experts from both inside and outside the university to evaluate the participating projects and selected excellent ones to participate in the provincial competitions. After the provincial competitions, the Youth League Committee will follow up and cultivate the six outstanding projects which have qualified for the national competitions. It is expected that the SCU students will continue to make great progress in the national competitions and achieve good results.
