On the afternoon of June 30th, President Yangrong Li met with leaders and experts from the Clausthal University of Technology, Texas Tech University, Arizona State University, University of California, Riverside attending 2019 UIP. Vice President Shijing Yan and heads of relevant departments joined the meeting.
During the meeting, President Li welcomed the guests and introduced to them the overall situation of SCU, especially the past and present of international exchanges and cooperation. He stressed that international exchange and cooperation is of vital significance to SCU; and SCUis making every effort to push forward a comprehensive, multi-level partnership with high-level universities in the world. Especially in recent years, SCU has vigorously promoted international exchanges and cooperation to broaden students' international horizons, and enhance their international competitiveness and global competence. For this purpose, UIPand "SCU Global Horizons" programs have been held. He hoped to conduct more in-depth, pragmatic and sustainable cooperation with partner universities in students exchange, scientific research and humanities exchange.
During the meeting, the visiting leaders highly appreciated the UIP activities and expressed their intention for further promoting exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan University.
Prof. Joachim Schachtne, President of the Clausthal University of Technology, reviewed the achievements of comprehensive cooperation between both sides in the past 15 years. A cooperation agreement in 2018 to jointly build the Sino-German Joint College marks a new level of cooperation between the two sides, he said, adding that both sides could further deepen cooperation and cultivate more outstanding talents for the economic and social development of the two countries.
Joseph Heppert, vice president of Texas Tech University, said that SCU'S UIP is highly appreciated by American teachers and students, who have not only absorbed the Chinese culture, but also conducted deep exchange and good communication with the peers of SCU, helping to broaden their international vision and improve their academic competence.
Stefanie Lindquist, Vice President of Arizona State University, expressed her gratitude and congratulations to the UIP. She said that during the 13 years of cooperation, the two institutions have carried out extensive, multi-disciplinary and multi-level exchanges, and achieved remarkable results. Arizona State University has sent 17 professors to offer courses for SCU students, in a hope to further promote the exchanges between the teachers and students of both sides and bear fruitful results from joint training of talents.
Kelechi Kalu, vice president of the University of California, Riverside, said that the participation of Riverside in UIP for the first time has laid a solid foundation for further cooperation. He hoped to further explore areas of cooperation and forge ahead through concerted efforts.
