SCU President Yanrong Li met with President Daniel Chamovitz and his delegation in the VIP Hall of Wangjiang Campus on September 23rd. Dan Blumberg and Limor Aharonson-Daniel, both of them vice-presidents of Ben-Gurion University; Mr. Ran Peleg, Consul-General of the Israeli Consulate General in Chengdu; Shijing Yan, Vice-President of Sichuan University, and the heads of relevant units of SCU attended the meeting.
After a brief introduction of SCU general situation regarding personnel training, scientific research and innovation, and international exchange, President Yanrong Li indicated that Sichuan University has always deemed it important to establish all-round cooperative relations with high-level international universities of all types so as to expand international exchange and cooperation and take the initiative to integrate into the world-class university competition system. Both sides have had good co-operations in life sciences since 2018 when a cooperative agreement was signed between the two universities. He hoped that both universities ought to take advantage of this visit and further promote the substantial cooperation between Sichuan University and Israeli universities, such asBen-Gurion University of the Negev. In addition to the current cooperation with SCU School of Life Sciences, we need to discuss cooperative plans of scientific innovation and talent training which are long-lasting and highly beneficial, working together to accelerate cultural exchange and intensify scientific cooperation between both sides.
Daniel Chamovitz suggested that Sichuan University is a prestigious university with a history over one hundred years, and Ben-Gurion University thinks of SCU as an important cooperative partner. Sichuan University is the first Chinese university that I have visited since I became president of my university.
He further said that both sides aim to become world-class universities and are confronted with new opportunities for development. It is more urgent for both universities to carry out in-depth cooperation with high-level universities. He hoped that both sides would make use of this visit to enhance exchange and cooperation concerning scientific research and teacher/student exchange, joining hands in building first-class universities.
Mr. Ran Peleg pointed out that the leaders of the two countries confirmed the establishment of a comprehensive partnership for innovation in 2017. Within the framework of innovation and cooperation, Israel attaches great importance to cooperation with China in agriculture, health care and academia.
The Sichuan Provincial Government has signed an academic cooperation plan with Israel. He hoped that Sichuan University, as a high-level university located in Sichuan, China, would actively participate in and make contributions to the plan. He said that the visit meant a good start, and the Israeli Consulate General in Chengdu would give full support to Sichuan University to carry out extensive cooperation and exchanges with more Israeli universities, including Ben- Gurion University of the Negev.
