The 35th Annual Pharmacoepidemiology Conference recently convened in Philadelphia, USA. Pennsylvania State University is the host of this conference. Hailong Li has won the Andrew MaAfee Award for his research paper “Drug Safety Signal Detection In a Chinese Regional Healthcare Database Using the Tree-based Scan Statistic And Comparison To 3 Other Statistical Methods”. Hailong Li is an assistant researcher at Department of Pharmacy, SCU West China Second University Hospital.
The award is given out to only one researcher or student/postdoctoral fellow from a developing country each year, and is awarded to the highest-scored paper by the judges. Pharmacoepidemiology plays an important role in studying the effectiveness, value and safety of pharmaceuticals. Being founded in 1991, the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology ( ISPE ) has become the most influential association of pharmacoepidemiology with more than 800 members from 54 countries. Its annual conferenceprovides an international forum for sharing knowledge and scientific approaches to foster the science of pharmacoepidemiology, including drug policy and management, post-marketing evaluation and drug utilization evaluation.
With the effective support of West China Second University Hospital, the Department of Pharmacy has made outstanding achievements in the research and practice of drug evidence-based evaluation, national drug policy and drug evidence-based decision-making and management. In the meantime, it has provided a good platform for young researchers regarding scientific research and professional growth, vibrantly promoting the development of pharmacy.
