Professor Lingli Zhang Won the Wu Jieping – Paul Janssen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award

The award ceremony of the 20th Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award ( Wu-Janssen Award ) was held at Capital Medical University recently. SCU Professor Lingli Zhang of West China Second University Hospital won the 20th Wu Jieping – Paul Janssen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award. 15 outstanding scientists in China's medical and health field were awarded this year.

The research team of Professor Lingli Zhang has been dedicated to pharmaceutics for children. The team was the first to establish an evaluation index and methodology of children's rational use of drugs and provided the follow-up evaluation tools and research methods for children's evidence-based drug use. Their research on pediatric hyper instruction drug use, the first of its kind in China, has been incorporated in the graduate textbook Evidence-based Medicine published by People’s Medical Publishing House Co., Ltd., which provides the first technical support for pediatric hyper instruction drug use based upon experts’ consensus. Being entrusted by the Department of Drug Policy and Essential Medicine of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the team developed the first national children's drug list of priority research and development in China. In addition, the national proposal of " Promoting Innovation and Access to High-quality, Safe, Effective and Affordable Children's Drugs " was adopted by the World Health Assembly. Professor Lingli Zhang was the only pharmacist who got invited by the United Nations to make a speech on access to children’s medicine, winning acclamation by the Human Rights Council and the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations at Geneva. Moreover, She also spoke on behalf of China about the access to children’s medicine at the “ Bi-regionalconsultationon good governance for improved access to medicines ”, boosting China’s say in the field of children’s drugs.

Due to her systematic and innovative work in the field of children's drug use, Professor Lingli Zhangservesas the leader of the high-risk drug management of the China Center Group of the International Rational Drug Use Network. She is also a member of the expert committee on children's rational drug use of the National Health Commission, and chairman of the evidence-based pharmacy special committee of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. What’s more, she has directed 35 research projects at differentlevels, including those of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published more than 200 papers as the first / corresponding author.

Beinglaunched by Center for International Exchange and Cooperation of the National Health Commission and Xian- Janssen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd in 1994, Wu-Janssen Award is to commend outstanding medical and health workers who have made outstanding contributions to invention and creation, basic research, application transformation research and clinical practice. With its strict screening and serious evalutation, Wu-Janssen Award is one of the most influential and authoritative of non-government awards on medical health in China. There have been 419 winners of the award so far.
