May 30 is the fourth National Science and Technology Workers Day. Xiaoming Feng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the College of Chemistry, Sichuan University, won the medal of “the Second National Innovation Leadership Award", the only medal winner from Sichuan Province. At the same time, Weimin Li, the president of West China Hospital, and Qiyong Gong, vice president of West China Hospital won the certificate of " the Second National Innovation Leadership Award".

In order to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of President Xi’s speech at the "three conferences of science and technology", further unite and lead all the science and technology workers to strive for the first in the process of building a world science and technology power, set up a model of national science and technology innovation in the new era, and commend the collectives and individuals who have made outstanding contributions in areas such as the epidemic prevention and control, poverty alleviation, basic research and frontier exploration, major equipment and engineering, achievement transformation, innovation and entrepreneurship, and social services, the Ministryof Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council have decidedto bestow on 10 teams “the Second National Innovation Leadership Award" plaque; award "the Second National Innovation Leadership Award" medal to 28 individuals and entitle them to the treatment for winners of provincial and ministerial awards; and give “the Second National Innovation Leadership Award" certificate to 258 individuals nationwide.

After the "National Natural Science Award", "National Technology Invention Award" and "National Science and Technology Progress Award", the "National Innovation Leadership Award" is another important science and technology award jointly established in 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. As an important part and supplement to the state’s science and technology award system, the "National Innovation Leadership Award" is given out once every three years. Each time, the award organizers will honor 10 teams, bestow the medal on no more than 30 science and technology workers and the certificate on no more than 300 science and technology workers. Being the vanguards for the development of a world science power, the award winners are all outstanding representatives of the rank and file science and technology workers and innovation teams in the country.
