From September 17thto 20th, Higher Education Teaching and Evaluation Center of the Chinese Ministry of Education conducted an on-site investigation and evaluation of undergraduate teaching in order to learn about the undergraduate education and teaching at Sichuan University. An expert meeting of evaluation on SCU undergraduate teaching was held on September 17th.
Among those attending this meeting are high-level university administrators, the foreign expert evaluation team consisting of experts from well-known research institutions and foreign scholars of Harvard University, the rank and file SCU administrators, academicians, distinguished professors, teacher representatives and student representatives among others. Mr. Jianping Cheng, Chairman of Beijing Normal University and director of the expert evaluation team, presides over this meeting.
In his address, Chair Jianguo Wang of the university council of Sichuan University expresses his warm welcome and gratitude towards all the experts and work units for their long-term help and care. He points out that it is a university’s essential undertaking to train talents, and the quality of talent training is the lifeline of a university.
In his report Sichuan University Undergraduate Education, an Education Dedicated to the Training of First-Class Talents, President Yanrong Li explains thoroughly SCU’s undergraduate education in terms ofschool foundation,talent training system,features of talent trainingandoutlook of the future.
Director Jianping Cheng of the expert evaluation team compliments Sichuan University for SCU’s accomplishments in her efforts to promote pedagogies in undergraduate school and makes a concise explanation of the assessment and evaluation.
SCU takes this undergraduate education evaluation with an utmost seriousness. At present, a total of 12 academic subjects, including Polymer Material and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering and Technology, etc., have been certified, entering the first-tier pack of engineering education in the world. The undergraduate education of Stomatology has also earned an international certification. Project Cost has met the qualifications and standards of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors). Moreover, Civil Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage, Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning have passed the evaluation of the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. In addition, SCU has promulgated Work Plan of Evaluation of Undergraduate Teaching and established a leadership team. In conclusion, Sichuan University has exhibited a first-class performance and top-notch standards in her undergraduate education and teaching.
