On the morning of December 6, Sichuan University,John Wiley & Sons, Inc (known as Wiley, for short) and SusMat jointly held theMaterials Innovation for Sustainable Development Forum 2020 and SusMat in Xiangyu Hotel, Chengdu.The Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) academicians of Zhang Qingjie, Chen Xuesi, Zhao Dongyuan, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) academicians of Shi Bi and Wang Qi; Chen Xuehua, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province, and Chu Liangyin, vice president of Sichuan University attended the forum. Also present at the forum were Philip Kisray, VP of International Education at Wiley, Xu Guangchen, director of Physical Sciences at Wiley China and other 300 scholars and experts. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Zhang Chuhong, executive editor of SusMat and professor of Polymer Research Institute of Sichuan University.

In his address at the opening ceremony, Chu Liangyin welcomed all academicians, leaders and experts in attendance and congratulated on the opening of the forum. He pointed out that Polymer Science has always been a strong discipline of Sichuan University. He hoped that SCU would take advantage of the opportunity of running SusMat with Wiley to strengthen the interdisciplinary integration and give full play to the advantages of Sichuan University's liberal arts, sciences, engineering and medicine. Thus, we could jointly make greater contribution to global sustainable development.

Chen Xuehua, Wang Qi (chief editor of SusMat ), and Philip Kisray delivered speeches respectively. They hoped that SusMat would play an important role in promoting the development of science and technology and related industries in Sichuan Province as well as the global sustainable development.

With the theme of "Materials innovation for sustainable development", the forum focused on hot issues and frontier research in the fields of clean energy, green catalysis, environmentally friendly materials and pollution control. Academicians Zhang Qingjie, Chen Xuesi, Zhao Dongyuan, Wang Qi and Huang Wei were invited to give reports, and 42 experts from 28 domestic units made presentations.
