On December 27th, the inaugural meeting and ratification of two key projects of the national major research and development plan “Research on the control and prevention of major chronic non-infectious diseases” was conducted in Chengdu. Sichuan University is the leader of these two projects: “Study on the Pathogenesis and Intervention of Vascular Cognitive Impairment and the “Comprehensive Demonstration Research on the Prevention and Control of Chronic Diseases in Southwest China”. Professor Yuquan Wei, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, SCU Vice President Lin Zhang, Director Liang Gao of the Social Development and Science and Technology Office of the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province. Hong Zhang, Deputy Director of the Academic Department of the Brain Disease Prevention Office of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, experts of the project consultative committee, project leaders and members, and heads of SCU relevant departments participated in the meeting.
On behalf of the university, Vice President Lin Zhang welcomes all leaders, experts and scholars to the conference and congratulates on the approval and successful launch of the project. He points out that the successful launch of the two major projects suggests new development of the SCU scientific research work. The university and its relevant departments will fully support and guarantee the smooth implementation of the projects. He expects the project teams to follow the timeline of the project plan, finish tasks on time and achieve the expected research objective.
Qiyong Gong, Deputy Director of West China Hospital, indicates that West China Hospital has confidence and capacity to ensure the project to go smoothly. At the meeting, Professor Yuquan Wei of Sichuan University and dozens of other experts are appointed members of the project consultative committee. The project leaders make a report on the overall situation of the project and the implementation plan of each subject respectively. In addition, the project experts have put forward many constructive suggestions on the specific implementation and so on.
It is reported that the project "Research on the Pathogenesis and Intervention of Vascular Cognitive Impairment" consists of three topics, which will be jointly completed by 10 work units, including Sichuan University, Jilin University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Army Medical University and Beijing Normal University.The project "Comprehensive Demonstration Research on Chronic Disease Prevention and Control in Southwest China" is composed of six topics. The project will be jointly completed by Sichuan University, First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Center for Chronic Non-communicable Disease Prevention and Control of China’s CDC and Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University.
In 2016, the "13th Five-Year Plan" identified "Brain Science and Brain-like Research" as one of the major scientific and technological innovation projects, and as one of the four pilot projects of "Science and Technology Innovation 2030 Major Project". It has entered the implementation stage of the project. The launch of the two projects is expected to better the understanding of chronic diseases, especially brain diseases and cardiovascular diseases, improve the overall scientific research level and clinical prevention and treatment of vascular cognitive impairment in China, promoting a new system of prevention and control of chronic diseases.
