With the support of Department of Degree Management & Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education and the guidance of the Secretariat of Medical "Double First-Class" Construction Alliance, a symposium on the ““double first-class” construction of stomatology was held in Chengdu recently.
About 80 people from 27 work units attended this symposium. Among those present at the symposium were Professor Jinzhong Jia, Peking University Health Science Center and Secretary of the Secretariat of Medical "Double First- Class" Construction Alliance, Vice President Weilin Xu of Sichuan University, Professor Xuedong Zhou, Academic Dean of West China School of Stomatology, Director Zhong-ming Li of SCU World Class Construction Office, administrators of West China Hospital (School) of Stomatology, deans (department heads) of stomatology hospitals of universities under the construction of “double first-class” status, among others. Dean Ling Ye of West China School of Stomatology presided over the symposium.
Weilin Xu, on behalf of Sichuan University, congratulated the convening of this symposium. He said that the symposium would help accelerate the construction of "double-first-class" stomatology in China, characteristic construction and high-quality construction. SCU will strongly support the construction of "double first-class" stomatology and actively make contributions to the development of stomatology in China.
At the symposium, Xiaoqing Lin, Director o fDepartment of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Educationand the Office of Quality and Supervision of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, delivered a speech. She said that the ultimate goal of the “double first-class” construction was to lead China to become a powerful country in higher education through a number of universities. She expected the platform of the medical alliance to play a leading role and promote exchanges and cooperation to a higher level. Professor Liping Duan, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Medical "Double First-Class" Construction Alliance and Vice Director of Peking University Health Science Center, introduced the basic composition and work of the Medical "Double First-Class" Construction Alliance.
At the exchange and discussion session presided over by Professor Xuedong Zhou, Sichuan University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Fourth Military Medical University and Wuhan University shared their respective plans in the construction of "double-class" status, especially the achievements, experience and problems. The participating universities and colleges spoke enthusiastically and discussed actively.
Qianming Chen, the executive vice president of West China Hospital (School) of Stomatology, read out the proposal of "National Stomatology Double First-Class Construction Cooperation Group", which passed unanimously after the discussion by the delegates. The cooperation group will have five rotary chairs, namely, Sichuan University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Fourth Military Medical University and Wuhan University. The 27 work units that are present at the symposium are the first members. And the Secretariat is located in West China Hospital (School) of Stomatology, Sichuan University. Xiaoqing Lin commented that this model of symposium was of great significance for promoting the construction of the double first-class status.
The cooperation group will hold regular high-level meetings and forums, carry out thematic research and training, and put forward policies and suggestions. In addition, it will focus on the construction of training system and norms for leading talents in a new era of stomatology. It will also ensure the quality of first-class stomatology talent training and first-class discipline construction standard and evaluation system, putting stomatology experts to the role of think tank and providing strong support for the reform and development of medicine education and health care in China.
