
The research proposal conference of “A Study of Rural, Agricultural and Farmer Issues in the Transition of American Industrialization in the 19th Century American Countryside,”/Seminar on the Construction of the Academic Community of World History has convened in Chengdu. Professor Zujie Yuan of SCU School of History and Cultures ( Tourism ) is the leader of this major social science research project. Shijing Yan, vice president of Sichuan University, and Bing Huang, director of Sichuan Social Science Planning Office, attended and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. More than 50 experts and scholars from more than 30 famous universities and scientific research institutions in China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Sun Yat-Sen University, East China Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Shaanxi Normal University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, Sichuan University and the editorial department ofHistorical Research, attended the conference.

Shijing Yan, on behalf of SCU, extended welcome and gratitude toward all the experts and scholars at the conference. He said that in recent years, our university has continued to implement a series of measures for the prosperity and development of social sciences and humanities, focusing on building humanities and social sciences with Chinese characteristics and Sichuan style. As a result, a series of significant symbolic achievements have appeared. He indicated that the major project of the National Social Science Foundation led by Professor Zujie Yuan is a good start for the social science fund of the world history discipline of our university, and is of great significance to the construction and evaluation of the world history discipline of our university. He expected that experts and scholars would cooperate with each other to build a common development of the academic community of world history, showing their steadfast concern and support for the reform and development of our university, and the discipline of world history in particular.

Bing Huang congratulated the successful opening of the research "A Study of Rural, Agricultural and Farmer Issues in the Transition of American Industrialization in the 19th Century American Countryside”.He hoped that project team members would devote themselves to research, reflecting the forward-looking and innovative nature of the research, and strengthen organizational leadership so as to conduct research regularly and orderly. He also hoped that the research team would consolidate forces, build a good team, and train more young talents to join the team.

The opening report was presided over by Jianxin Hou, convener of the World History Review Group of the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and chairman of the Expert Group.Professor Zujie Yuan, the chief expert of the national social science major project "A Study of Rural, Agricultural and Farmer Issues in the Transition of American Industrialization in the 19th Century American Countryside,”introduced the overall situation of the subject. He pointed out that the overall issue of this study was the impact of industrialization on American agriculture, rural areas and farmers in the 19th century and their response to the impact of industrialization.The project is divided into five sub-topics. At the research proposal conference, the leaders of each sub-project made a report on their ideas and plans for the section in their charge.Subsequently, the experts discussed the briefing by the research team and put forward many constructive suggestions on major projects.

The seminar on the constructionof the academic community of World History was held on the afternoon of April 13th . The two sessions were presided over by Professor Xu Wang of Xiamen University and Professor Jian Shen of Zhejiang University. Famous experts and scholars from various universities made speeches one after another. They carried out in-depth discussions and exchanges on the major topics of Professor Zujie Yuan and the construction of the academic community of World History.
