Xiao Yanning and Teammates Won China’s First-Ever Olympic Gold in Artistic Swimming Team Event

In the just concluded synchronized swimming team event of the 2024 Paris Olympics on the early morning of August 8th (Beijing time), the Chinese artistic swimming team, composed of SCU's College of Physical Education teacher Xiao Yanning and seven teammates, achieved a high score of 996.1389 with their superb skills and strong team spirit, winning the gold medal in the synchronized swimming team event. This is China's 24th gold medal and the first-ever Olympic gold in the artistic swimming team event.

Theartistic swimming at the Paris Olympics consists of two events: group and pairs. The Chinese team entered the day with a commanding lead of almost 70 points after the technical routine and free routine. In the "Light of Life" acrobatic routine,the squad put out a near perfect performance, scoring 283.6934 in this event to earn a total score of 996. 1389 after three to become Olympic Champions in Paris.

Xiao Yanning was born in 1998. Being Selected for the national team in 2015, she won the national honorary title of "International Level Athlete" in 2016. In the 2017 Budapest World Championships, Xiao clinched the gold medal in synchronized swimming team freestyle combination, which was the first gold medal in the history of Chinese synchronized swimming at the World Championships. Currently, Xiao Yanning is a teacher and coach at the College of Physical Education.
