The 2024 Sichuan University UIP (University Immersion Program) opened at the Wangjiang Campus on June 30. Vice presidents You Jinsong and Zhao Changsheng, Liu Xiaohu, deputy secretary of the university Party committee, responsible persons of relevant departments, and over 2,000 Chinese and foreign teachers and student representatives attended the opening ceremony. Zhao Changsheng presided over the opening ceremony.
On behalf of the university, Liu Xiaohu congratulated on the opening of the UIP and welcomed teachers and students from all over the world. He pointed out that Sichuan University is committed to cultivating talent and outstanding persons who possess lofty ideals and beliefs, profound humanistic heritage, professional expertise, strong innovation consciousness, and international perspective. Since the first UIP in 2012, Sichuan University has invited experts, scholars, and students from world-class universities to participate in academic courses and cultural exchanges, helping the university further enhance its global competitiveness.
Professor Erwin Neher, a teacher representative and Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine, stated that the annual Sichuan University UIP provides a valuable opportunity for global students to engage in ideological and cultural exchanges. I hope that all students can explore their areas of interest and problems in depth, learn from each other, and make progress together. I also hope all teachers can strengthen cultural exchanges, actively cooperate, and contribute wisdom to human development. Student representatives Rena Hernandez Roque and Shi Likai expressed their hope to learn and exchange ideas with teachers and students from all over the world, explore academic and technological mysteries together, and share a cultural knowledge feast during the UIP.
After the opening ceremony, Chinese and foreign students gave performances such as folk dances, and opera pieces, etc. to kick off the UIP.
This UIP has invited 136 experts and scholars from 32 countries and regions to teach 141 courses in English. In addition, exchange programs such as "International Master Lecture Hall", "Lectures on International High-level Journal Frontier Series", and "Student International Competition" were also added to the program.
