“Seeking Elegance at Dachuan” Classical Chinese Style Night Tour Market: A Cultural Feast Spanning Thousands of Years

Date:Jul 17, 2024

A one of a kind Chinese style night market was held at the Sichuan University Museum on the evening of July 13. This event attracted a large audience including teachers and students to participate. Here, they embarked on a journey of time via an abundance of festivities.

This event is the finale of Sichuan University's University Immersion Program (UIP), aiming to showcase the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture in the form of a classical Chinese style market. Through immersive experiences, the audience can feel firsthand the charmby means of highly treasured Chinese culture and customs.

This event consists of six sections.

One. "Huaguang Reproduction" Han traditional custom show

The so-called deductive tour refers to adding plot and interactive elements to traditional tour guide explanations, effectively enhancing the audience's experience, and is particularly suitable for museums that spread humanistic history.

Two. Seeking elegance at Dachuan and enjoying the collection of seals

Visitors will tour the exhibition hall by competing the tasks on the cultural relics check-in form, and answer the corresponding questions orally and by taking photos. Visitors who answer correctly will receive nine carefully prepared seals from the museum. 800 copies of the album were quickly sold out by the enthusiastic audience shortly after the start of the event.

Three. China-Chic style, an amusement market

At the public stalls on the first, second, and fourth floors of the museum, visitors experienced various ancient style projects such as intangible cultural heritage fans with Chinese aesthetics, imaginative cultural and creative products, and Chinese style games that blend ancient and modern styles.

We see a stall on the second floor where a vendor is introducing to visitors –chanhua(wrapped flowers), which is an ancient intangible cultural heritage. This is her first time to set up a stall, and she hopes that more friends can learn about and fall in love with wrapped flowers.

Many parents brought their children to visit today's market. Those kids learned about traditional Chinese culture on site. A mother with her child expressed that they were willing to support the innovation and creativity of Sichuan University students in this way, and also hoped that their children could gain something from this educational and entertaining experience.

Four. Chinese folk music

The Sichuan University Student Folk Music Troupe performed traditional songs such as Fishing Boat Singing in Evening, Moon Night by Spring, and Big Fish and Begonia. The lingering melancholy of the erhu is like a gentle drizzle; The guzheng is like high mountains and flowing water, bringing a traditional and modern fusion of Chinese music to the audience.

Five. Love wins all - tradition, renewal, co creation

In addition to the rich Chinese cultural activities, the museum also exhibits the graduation works of students majoring in Visual Communication Design from the Arts College, Sichuan University. This small exhibition revolves around love and interprets different forms of love through paper-based creation and digital reconstruction. At the same time, these designs also focus on another important theme: traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage inheritance.

Six. Folk sports, entertain and carry on

Throwing pots can be traced back to the pre Qin period and was a ceremonial game during banquets.

During banquets, if the courtyard is not spacious enough to place arrow targets, or if there are too many guests to prepare for archery competitions, or if some guests do not know how to shoot arrows, throwing pots is used instead to entertain guests and practice etiquette. On the fourth floor terrace of the museum, visitors tried out the traditional sport of throwing pots.

As night fell, the Classical Chinese Style Night Tour Market came to a successful end amidst laughter and joy. This journey of classical Chinese style not only leaves people with beautiful memories, but also a profound understanding and inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture. The Sichuan University Museum will continue to uphold the tenet of "promoting culture and inheriting civilization", and provide more high-quality cultural services for teachers, students, and residents.
